Melvin Lee Moore, Jr was born on Sept 27, 1952 in Troy, OH to Melvin Lee Moore, Sr. and Barbara (Jones) Moore. He was raised in Dayton, OH and graduated from high school there. In 1972 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and promptly headed to basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonino, TX. He was stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia before being sent to Guam for 2 years and then on to Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs. During his time in Colorado Springs, Mr. Moore worked on Cheyenne Mountain where the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) headquarters are located. He later relocated to Holland in the Netherlands and eventually to Tinker AFB in 1987.
In 1992, Melvin was honorably discharged from the US Air Force after more than two decades of service to his country. After a few short years Melvin decided that retirement didn’t agree with his strong work ethic and he accepted a position with Lopez Foods in OKC. He eventually went to work for Hertz Car Rental near Will Rogers Airport before ultimately retiring for good several years ago.
Mr. Moore enjoyed staying fit by running and working out at his local YMCA. He was an independent and ornery man with a good heart. Melvin did things his way and he was not concerned with the opinions of others. He was a stern disciplinarian with his children but mellowed over the years into an easy going grandpa who adored his 5 grandkids. He loved collecting caps and hats and chose to unwind by making trips to the local casino. Melvin was the self-proclaimed “grill master” and he enjoyed smoking meat for his family and traveling the world with his wife and children. Melvin was a loving husband, a dedicated father, a proud grandfather, a hard-working patriot, and a loyal friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Melvin Lee Moore Sr. and his mother Barbara Seavers. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate Erma (Turner) Moore of OKC; two children: Melvin Lee Moore III and fiancé Tamill Allen of Midwest City, OK, and Erica Dominique Moore-Brown and husband Tyrel Brown of OKC, OK. 5 grandchildren: Cory T. Green Jr, Aleeigh Moore, Taleah D’nae Moore, Deushaun T. Brown, and Celeste D. Brown. He is also survived by three siblings: twin brother James Winston Moore, a sister Rebecca Seavers, and a brother Corbin Seavers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other beloved family members and friends.
