Melvin Perkins Sr. was born April 4, 1916 in Freeport, Illinois to Floyd and Alice Perkins. Melvin was the oldest of four boys. In September 1941 Melvin joined the Army, going to Mississippi where he met Mary Celeste at a USO. They were married in 1945 and they had one child. After 52 years of marriage and a long illness Mary Celeste passed away in 1997. After being discharged from the Army in January 1946, Melvin worked 25 years for Kingwood Oil Co. and 7 years for Anson, Inc. In view of his background in taxes, Melvin volunteered as a tax preparer for the elderly until he was 97 years old. He is survived by his son Melvin and his wife Becky Perkins of Norman, Oklahoma; brother Floyd Perkins, of Oregon, Illinois, two grandchildren; Kyle Perkins of Arvada, Colorado and Kim Wheeler of McKinney, Texas. Melvin loved playing with his three great grand children Josiah, Hannah, and Bekah.
