Mrs. Nancy M Wienecke, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on June 28, 2018 at her home at the age of 86. She was born in New York to the late John J and Margaret Mills. She attended the University of Rochester and Eastman School of Music and graduated with degrees in English and Music. She married her late husband, Robert M Wienecke in Pennsylvania in 1953. They later moved to Oklahoma City where she taught English at John Marshall High School, helping Robert through medical school. As Robert was in training and military after completing medical school, they lived in West Virginia, Florida, Ohio and Louisiana in a matter of 7 years before returning to Oklahoma City in 1963. She lost her husband and first love to cancer in 1995; however, she found her second love in Bill Dabney in 2000. Their relationship remained strong until her death.
Her life was a full and successful one. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City for over 50 years and an active member of the adult choir for more than 30 years. She had a love for music of all kinds and had a passion for classical music. At one point in her life she was an accomplished pianist. She participated in volunteer work most of her adult life and from 1993 until April of this year was actively involved with the Urban Mission. Her most successful accomplishments were manifest in family. She was a loving and supportive wife which afforded her late husband with what he referred to shortly before his death as “a happy and full life”. She and her husband raised four children (one mechanical engineer, 3 physicians) to be loving and caring individuals. She often mused that “after putting one husband and 3 children through medical school, I also earned a minor degree in medicine”.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses; Allan Wienecke, Matthew Wienecke, Gretchen Herre (Bob Herre), Robert Wienecke (Sarah Wienecke); her 10 grandchildren and her second love Bill Dabney. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KUCO (90.1 FM) or OMRF (Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation). The family would like to extend special thanks to Martha Unzueta for the exquisite care and friendship given to Nancy in the final weeks of her life. Graveside services will be held, 8:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
