Norma was born in Scottsburg Indiana, daughter of Gilbert and Mae Shields on May 24, 1936. She met, and fell for the love of her life, Bob on their first date March 17, 1953, and three years later they were married on June 24, 1956. Becoming a full time mother soon curtailed her working career. They lived in Louisville Ky., Colorado Springs Co., and St. Louis Mo. finally moving to Oklahoma City in 1964. She soon became involved in many civic originations, servng as president of the University of Oklahoma Medical school faculty wives auxiliary. She was devoted to tennis, playing for many years, and winning the women’s singles championship at Quail Creek Country club in 1997. She enjoyed her hobbies of tennis, cooking, and above all her rose garden. She was always the consummate hostess and took great pride in her formal dinner parties, setting a beautiful table each time with her collection of early American cut glass and China.
Norma lived her life to the fullest during these years, devoting her love and caring energy to raising 2 wonderful children, Robert and Cynthia, and she especially enjoyed the many years of watching and caring for her granddaughter Jessica as she matured into a talented and accomplished woman.
Norma was a beautiful, strong, intelligent and independent woman. She always knew what she wanted, and was capable of achieving her goals. She was known for her love, her friendship, and as a caring person to all who needed her. Norma will be greatly missed and remembered by all of us who have had the good fortune to have known her. We exist here for such a short period of time, but in this lifetime Norma produced a beautiful family and left a legacy of memories that will last forever. May the peace of God be with her throughout eternity.
