Norma was born in Los Angeles, California, to Newell and Lillian Scherer and was raised in Barstow, California. She married the love of her life, Bob Meier, and together they built a family rooted in love, faith, and resilience over their 56-year marriage.
Norma was the devoted mother of five children: Diana Meier Prohs (Louis), James “Jim” Meier (Jody), Michael Meier (Mary Schuman), Kellie Rushing (Charles), and Shellie Meier. She was also a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, her husband Bob, and her beloved children, Diana and Jim.
Norma enjoyed a long and successful career in the restaurant business, where her outgoing personality and warm spirit shone brightly. In the years before her retirement, she worked as a nanny, lovingly caring for children who became extended family to her. She later retired to care devotedly for her husband, Bob, a role she embraced with grace and selflessness.
Known for her friendly nature and joyful conversation, Norma never met a stranger. She was deeply loved by her family, friends, and the many families whose lives she touched through her work and kindness. Her hobbies included traveling and reading, but above all, her greatest love was her faith.
A longtime Baptist, Norma loved the Lord and lived her life as a reflection of His love. Her faith gave her strength through life’s challenges and comfort in her final days. We take peace in knowing she has been welcomed home with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Norma will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose life she touched, yet we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and the joyful reunion that awaits.
Burial will take place at Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery on February 27th at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Norma’s honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
