

Robert James Slaby was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, February 7, 1927. He passed away peacefully on February 16, one week after his 85th birthday after a long battle with dementia. He will be sorely missed by his family, but they rejoice that he is with God and so many loved ones in heaven. He attended Cretin High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. L He was a veteran of the Air Force. Later he attended the University of Minnesota, receiving a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Upon graduation, he met the love of his life, Mary. Following their wedding, Robert began his lifelong career in the oil and gas industry. The majority of his career was spent in North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Oklahoma employed by Texaco, Monsanto, BHP, and later the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Robert was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He loved hunting and fishing and great family vacations. He was active in his church, St. Charles Borromeo and in the Knights of Columbus as a Grand Knight. He had a great and mischievous nature, always surprising his family with his timely sense of humor and mannerisms. Robert was preceded in death by his father, the late Louis Slaby and his mother, Cora Slaby. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Kampa Slaby, He is survived by his sisters Mary Kay Simmer, Donnie Beer, and brother Father Joe Slaby. Robert is also survived by his son David Slaby and wife Therese; his daughter Linda Baker and her husband Robert Baker; and his loving daughter Cherie Ludow and her husband David Ludow. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Nick, Sarah, Dawson, Ali and Joe, who were the joys of his golden years. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012, in the Guardian Funeral Homes West Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel. Interment will follow in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Silverado Hospice, In Memory of Robert Slaby, 4500 Beltway, Addison, Texas 75001.
