Sandra Wilson cherished and guided her family with unwavering love and intense resolve; she welcomed all who entered her home as friends, and she weathered all storms with an unshakeable faith that goodness would prevail.
She was born in Kingston, Oklahoma, graduated from LA Puente High School, and made her permanent home in Oklahoma where she retired from First National Community Bank in 2010—just shy of thirty-six years’ service and a lifetime of special memories and treasured friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Gardner and Enah (Gardner) Schmidt, her siblings, Paul Enah Alvarado, JoAnn Collier, Jerry Sue Goodall, and Carl Dean Gardner; her son, Mark Cash Wilson, and her husband, Joe Ellis Wilson.
She is survived by her daughter, Ricki Wilson, her granddaughter, Codi Darakhshan, her grandson-in-law, David Darakhshan, her nieces and nephews and their children, and countless friends.
In her California days, Sandy loved going to the stock car races, cruising the highways in flamed-out pickups, and bonfire parties on the beach. Then she moved to Oklahoma and married a cowboy.
Sandy became a rodeo secretary and timekeeper, spending long nights at roping’s, and many miles traveling to Ricki’s rodeos where she embraced new friendships that have stood the test of time.
Then Mark decided he wanted to show hogs, so she became an FFA Mom, walking the show barns, helping with baths, traveling to shows—again widening her circle of lifelong friends.
She loved going to garage sales with her sisters and going dancing with her husband. She was an artist, a reader, and an avid “Words with Friends” player. She loved traveling, recently taking a trip to Kentucky with her best friend, Edie. She loved a good game of dominos, and she loved her pets.
She loved the holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fourth of July—and in the Wilson house, The Kentucky Derby. It would be impossible to count the number of friends who enjoyed these celebrations in her home.
But she really loved being a grandma. From basketball to rodeo, grade school to high school, college to marriage to building her life, Codi always had an unwavering fan in Gma. Sandy loved being a grandmother to her one-and-only.
Sandra Wilson left her mark on this earth. Many benefitted from her wise council, or a shared meal, or a place to come in from the cold. She came from a long line of strong women, and she instilled that strength in her girls—strength to know that bad times are temporary, that goodness exists, and that storms make us stronger.
We carry you in our hearts and in our minds because you loved us fiercely and taught us well.
A memorial service for Sandra will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Bill Eisenhour NE Funeral Home Chapel, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
