

Sue Neal Massey was born Sept. 10, 1929 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, daughter of Dr. Laile G. and Vivian S. Neal. She began singing in the church choir in Junior High School and continued throughout her adult life. She has been a life long member of the United Methodist Church. She graduated Ponca City High School. In 1951, she graduated the University of Oklahoma where she had joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. The year she graduated, she was honored by being selected one of O.U.’s Big Women on Campus. She majored in voice and studied under Joseph Benton (Giuseppe Bentonelli – his professional name while touring in Europe) In 1950, she joined the P.E.O. sisterhood and became an active member of chapter EH. She married Jack T. Massey in 1951. She was an active member of Nichols Hills Methodist Church where she served on various committees, sang in the choir, volunteered in the office and participated in the Hand Bell Choir. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her Kappa sisters. Sue is survived by her children Sarena Pettit and husband Warren of Hendersonville, TN, Cindy Utecht and husband Robert of Edmond, OK, J.T. Massey and wife Sara of Ft. Collins, CO and Neal Massey and wife Michelle of Lone Tree, CO, her grandchildren Sara Walker, Scott Lashley, Katie and Andrew Massey and Courtney and Nicole Damian-Campbell and five great grandchildren Max, Caster and Emaline Walker and Bowen and Blake Lashley. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Massey of Oklahoma City, OK and brother Richard Neal of Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nichols Hills United Methodist Church Choir or to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Epworth Memory Care and Epworth at Home Hospice for all they did. A memorial service will be held at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church on February 14, 2015 at 11:00 am.
