

Theodore (Ted) Edmund Henry Wegener, 95, passed away Aug. 5, 2015. He was born April 15, 1920, the second of nine children to the Rev. Theodore A. H. Wegener and Adeline Marie (Amerland) Wegener in Lake Charles, LA. He graduated from Lake Charles High School in June 1938, and worked for Swift & Company in Lake Charles prior to being inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps on Feb. 16, 1942. He attended Montana State College, Bozeman, MT, in 1943 as part of his training prior to being appointed an aviation cadet. He was appointed a flight officer Sept 2, 1944, and served as a bombardier-navigator in the European Theatre — Belgium, Holland and Germany — in the 155th Night Photo Reconnaissance Squadron (9AF). He was awarded a number of medals, including two Bronze Stars and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in October 1945 and honorably discharged April 16, 1946. Ted met Ellen Mae Nobbe in September 1944 while stationed at Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers Field training as a F-3A crewmember. They were married in Zion Lutheran Church, Oklahoma City, on June 15, 1946. He was employed May 15, 1946, by The Oklahoma Publishing Company and retired April 1, 1985, as assistant controller. He majored in accounting at Oklahoma City University. He was a charter member of the Air Force Association and member of the United States Golf Association. He enjoyed sailing, golf and reading biographies of historical figures. His wife of 64 years, parents, and sister Adeline Simon, Lake Charles, LA, preceded him in death. Survivors include four children, Robert Wegener, College Station, TX; Jane Huston, Stillwater, OK; Patricia Fry and husband Bill, Lenexa, KS, and Alan Wegener and wife Rae Jean, Tulsa, OK; seven grandchildren, Bobby Wegener and wife Meredith, Jessica Becker and husband Troy, Hunter Huston and wife Chrystal, Brent Fry, Brad Fry and wife Krystal, Brandon Wegener and Alyson Wegener; six great grand children, Christopher Becker, Nicholas Becker, Harper Wegener, Henry Wegener, Owen Fry and Landen Fry; and brothers Lawrence, Gottfried (Gitch) and Albert of Lake Charles, LA, and John of Zwolle, LA; sisters Esther Eyberg, Burnsville, MN, Barbara Hellman, Waupun, WI, and Marie Roberts, Lake Charles, LA.
