Wilford James Thatcher

Wilford James Thatcher, age 81 of Oklahoma City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 29, 2019. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services in Oklahoma City. A visitation will be held from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Advantage Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring his life will take place on February 4, 2019 at 10:00am at Landmark Holiness Tabernacle located at 1344 SW 34th in Oklahoma City with burial to follow at Sunnylane Cemetery.

Wilford was born on March 17, 1937 in Byars, OK to Wilson Jess and Zela Orin (Walker) Thatcher. After school he went to work with his Dad at several different service station locations before going to work for his brother. In 1963 he met the love of his life, Thelma Almeta Mitchusson, and they were married in 1966. Together they bought a house and made their home in Oklahoma City.

Throughout his life Wilford worked at several dealerships including Dunn Buick, Doug Lady Buick and Gander Buick. He also worked for TGY in the automotive industry and for Macklanburg Duncan before returning to work for his brother at a service station. After his retirement he enjoyed helping Almeta with her daycare. He and Almeta attended church at Landmark Holiness Tabernacle in Oklahoma.

Wilford loved everything car related, especially old, classic cars and enjoyed tinkering with them and figuring out how they were put together. He will be remembered as a quiet, easy going man who wanted everything in life to be peaceful. Above all else, he will be remembered as a wonderful husband.

Wilford was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Zela (Walker) Thatcher; brother, Willy Lee Thatcher; sister, Lela Mae Massengale; nieces, Patsy and Pam; and a nephew, Gary.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Thelma Almeta (Mitchusson) Thatcher; Nieces, Linda Janes, Vickie Pack and Debbie Thatcher; and nephew, Paul Massengale.
