William Buck Preston Carroway

William Preston “Buck” Carroway passed away October 8, 2011 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born August 14, 1936 in Coward, South Carolina; the second of six children to parents Blaney Jackson Carroway and Ardell Collins Carroway. Buck was a graduate of McClenaghan High School in Florence, South Carolina. After high school, he graduated from the University of South Carolina where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering and worked for the Federal Highway Administration for thirty-four years. He enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Master Gardeners; he also enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family. Buck was a devoted member of Quail Springs Baptist Church since 1972. He was ordained a deacon in Schoal Creek Baptist Church in 1967. Buck was a member of the Leisure Livewires and the Senior Adult Choir at QSBC. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Buck was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Marie Carroway; and siblings, Jack Carroway and Frances Carroway Elmore. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Juliette Carroway; children, William Preston Carroway, Jr. and wife Jennifer Deanna Carroway, David Alan Carroway and wife Angela Jan Carroway, and Joy Elizabeth Cross; sisters, Ann Truluck ( Tommy), Judy Vause ( Mike), and Linda Hicks (Kelso); grandchildren, Taelor Alexis Payne, William Preston Carroway III, Katherine Elizabeth Carroway, Nicholas Alan Carroway, Parker Gene Carroway, Zachary Lloyd Cross, Kathleen Marie Cross, Emalee Grace Carroway, William Grayson Carroway; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Quail Springs Baptist Church under the direction of Guardian Funeral Home. Reverend Gerald Brown will be officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Capital Memorial Gardens in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 N. May Ave, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73134.
