William Thurman Fry, 92, of OKC passed peacefully from this life on February 6, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service and a service celebrating Mr. Fry’s remarkable journey will be held at 2pm on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Advantage Chapel at 7720 S. Penn in OKC. Public visitation will be held on Sunday from 1pm-6pm.
William Fry was born on May 28, 1925 in Galena, KS to Marion and Dora (Robinson) Fry. He was raised in Galena where he graduated from Galena High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and headed north to the Great Lakes Naval Station for his basic training. He served as a machinist mate in the South Pacific during WWII and also participated in the Battle of Okinawa. He was later honorably discharged from the Navy but was called back to serve his country during the Korean War.
William returned to Kansas where he was employed for a short time at the local lead smelter. In the mid 1940’s he met and married Patricia Ann Brentlinger. In the late 1940’s they relocated to Oklahoma where Mr. Fry began a long career as a meat curer at the Wilson Company. He retired in the early 1980’s after nearly four decades with the Wilson Company. In 1982 he met and married Mary Fields and they spent two decades together before her passing in 2002.
William was a kind man who possessed a quiet strength and a very dry wit. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, cooking spicy food for his friends and family, and spending time gardening and growing flowers. William loved his butter pecan ice cream as much as he loved his OU Sooners. He was a 50 yr member of the VFW, as well as a Master Mason at the Uriah Lodge #227 in Wheatland, OK. William was also a 32 Degree Mason at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie, an accomplishment of which he was very proud.
William Fry left an unmistakable mark on the lives of those he loved and he will truly be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives Mary and Patricia Fry; four siblings: Raymond Fry, Leslie Earl Fry, Gloria “Cricket” Hunley, and Aline Thomas. He is survived by his three children: David Fry of NC, Marion Fry and wife Cindy of OKC, and Howard Fry and wife Kathleen of Shanghai, China; a sister Katherine Bruce of Altus, OK; nine grandchildren: Buddy Fry, Jason Fry, Amanda Ory-Bailus, Emily Dunbar, Kelly Fry, Nicole Fry, Rachel Fry, Michael Fry, and Rachel E. Fry. He is also survived by numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and friends.
