
Mayfield, William Cullen Jr. (Bill) was born on February 22, 1928, to William and Thelma Mayfield in Oklahoma City. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 5, 2011. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1949. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Penny Starr in 1948. They established a home in Henryetta, OK, where Bill worked for Pittsburg Paint and Glass Company. In 1952 the family moved to Oklahoma City, where Bill began his employment for Tinker Air Force Base. Bill worked for the United States government in many capacities for 35 years retiring as a G. S. 14 branch manager in 1987. Bill and Penny remained a loving couple for 52 years until Penny’s death in January, 2000. Bill was an active member of the United Methodist Church for all of his adult life, serving on many committees, as a Sunday school teacher and as a chancel choir member for over 60 years. As a 33-year member of The Church of the Servant, he was active in Prime Time and the Celebration Choir, where he met the second love of his life, Barbara Sell. He and Barbara were married on May 26, 2001 and just recently celebrated their tenth anniversary. Bill and Barbara loved their animals, loved to travel, sing in the church choir, and get together with long -time friends and family. Bill was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing until his shoulder surgery in 2002. He never met a job or task that he couldn’t tackle. He was a good and faithful husband, father, father-in law, and step-father, admired and respected by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Penny Mayfield, and son, Terry Mayfield. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home, two daughters, Linda (Mel) Jones, Kay Medcalf, step-daughter, Terry Butler (Greg), grandchildren: Jennifer Mayfield, Paul (Krista) Jones, Kyle (Shari) Medcalf, and Amanda Medcalf, and step-grandchildren: Mike Jones, Marsha (Tom) Jones, Jessie Butler; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family request any donations be made to the Music Ministries of The Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73142. Memorial Services will take place at 1:30pm, on Wednesday, June 8th, 2011 at The Church of the Servant. The family would welcome those in attendance at a reception following the service.
