Darlena Sue Groves, 75, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She will forever be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met.
Darlena was born on December 15, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to Lowell Curtis and Dorthea Florene (Dodds) Wyatt. She attended and graduated from Technical High School. She married the love of her life, Allwin Blaine Groves. Together they raised their three children, Donielle, May and Britt.
Darlena worked in the jewelry sales department for Kohl’s Retail Store. In her leisure time she enjoyed painting and cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Nothing gave her more pleasure in life than the time she would spend with her grandchildren. Her children describe her as “selfless”. She was more concerned with the needs and wishes of others then with those of her own. She will be sadly missed.
Darlena is preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Dorthea Wyatt, sister Marsha, and her loving husband Allwin Blaine Groves who passed away on March 30, 2000. She is survived by her two daughters, Donielle Foster and her husband Leslie of Olathe, Kansas, May E. Groves of Olathe, Kansas and her son Britt A. Groves of Liberty, Missouri. Left behind to cherish her memory are her nine grandchildren, Jeremy Stroh, Colby Stroh, Derek Foster, Aaron Foster, Brielle Atwell, Bailey Atwell, Ryan Groves, Tanner Groves, Carter Groves and two great grandchildren, Brinleigh Meyer and soon to be “Noah” . Darlena is also survived by her brother, Royce Wyatt and his wife Beverly and her sister, Evelyn Rager and her husband Robert both of the state of Texas.
According to her wishes, Darlena will be cremated. A “Celebration of Life” honoring Darlena will take place at a later date.
