

Annette Louise Peck, 86, died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS. She was born August 8, 1927 to Wiley C. and Edith H. (Austin) McEwen in Kansas City, MO. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, October 16 at 1:30pm at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Asbury.
Annette graduated from Westport High School in 1944 and KU in 1949. On January 28, 1950 Annette married her college sweetheart Kenneth W. Peck at Swope Park Methodist Church. The two became avid square dancers. Later they were blessed with two children: Roger and Diane. Ken and Annette raised their children in Prairie Village and Overland Park and moved to Miami, FL in 1979. Until recently, Ken and Annette were snow birds, spending their winters in Apopka, FL and summers in Overland Park.
Annette learned to fly at Ong Airport in Raytown, MO. She soloed on August 25, 1945 in the same plane as her future husband. Ken flew in the same plane, on the same day that she soloed in, although they would not meet for another two years. She would go on to earn her private pilot’s license on June 10, 1968 at Olathe Airport (now Johnson County Executive), after completing her tour of duty as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader.
After marriage, Ken & Annette lived in Olathe, Lake Tapawingo, MO and Kansas City, MO before Ken re-entered the US Navy. While Ken was in the Navy, they lived in Newport, RI, Port Hueneme, CA, and Key West, FL.
Annette and Ken enjoyed growing things. They owned two orange groves, a pecan farm, and a Christmas tree farm.
She excelled at bowling and enjoyed playing tennis. She once appeared on Bowling for Dollars, a local Kansas City show hosted by TV personality Fred Browski.
After moving to Miami, Annette became a real estate agent for the major South Florida realtor. She also earned her license to sell real estate limited partnerships.
Together with Ken, Annette was an extensive traveler. She visited most of the states and 36 foreign countries.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, son Roger Peck (Kim) of Overland Park, daughter Diane Neibling (Dwight) of Overland Park and grandchildren, Belinda Neibling, Paul Neibling, Sara Kazmierczak(Matt) and Colin Peck. Also, surviving are brothers Richard McEwen (Ducky), Flint, Michigan and Conrad McEwen, Lantana, Florida.
