Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from January 1976 to 1992. Following his military service, he continued his strong work ethic in civilian life, working at Andy Klein Pontiac and then Farmers Insurance, where he remained until his retirement in 2019. In retirement, he found what was likely his favorite role—serving as a school bus driver for the Olathe School District, where he took great joy in caring for the children he transported each day.
On March 30, 1984, he married Paula Denise Maher, and together they built a life rooted in love in Olathe, Kansas.
He was a devoted father to Lacey (Gary) Wilkins, Amanda (Greg) Munsterman, Chelsey Henry, and Nathan Acree. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Austin and Westin Wilkins; Gunnar and Kira Henry; and Parker, Hailey, and Aiden Munsterman. His grandchildren were one of the greatest joys of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samual K. Acree and Helen Acree.
Wayne will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the kindness and steady presence he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on through the lives of his children and grandchildren, who will carry his memory forward with love.
Celebration of Life will be on Monday, April 6, 2026 starting at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. A short chapel service will follow starting at 12:00 p.m. Wayne will be buried with Military Honors for his dedicated services in the U.S. Air Force in Leavenworth National Cemetery Leavenworth, Kansas.
