Marie was born in Kansas City, Kansas, November 1, 1916 to Robert and Bina Sympson. She had one child, a son, Tom O’Dell, who was her pride and joy. She married Harry Luth on September 30, 1933.
Tom Brokaw called the people of the United States that were born between 1914 and 1924, “The Great Generation,” because of their willingness to sacrifice for the good of our country, and their families. Marie Luth demonstrated these very character traits in her life. She worked as a Harvey Girl as waitress at Union Station, later as a radio technician at the B-25 Fairfax Bomber Production Plant during World War II, was a secretary for Allis Chalmers, and a key punch operator at Townley Metal and Hardware, before she retired. Marie also tirelessly volunteered and supported the Humane Society most of her life. Like many people of this generation she had a strong work ethic, valued education, and there was nothing more important to her than her family.
To her love ones, she was known as Marie, Mom, Grandma Honey, and Aunt Marie. She always made the children of our family feel special, and her love for them was unconditional, for five generations. For all of us, we loved her spunk, her quick wit and sense of humor, and she was an entertainer in a crowd. She was also an avid basketball fan!
She will be truly missed.
