Brian was raised in Paola and graduated from Paola High School. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Anne, who passed away as an infant. From a young age, Brian showed a deep love for art and a natural talent for drawing and painting, a passion he carried with him throughout his life.
He attended Ottawa University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in art and art history in 1971. During his time there, he met the love of his life, Jennine Pekala. The two were married in 1970, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and shared experiences.
Following graduation, Brian proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge, Brian and Jennine returned to Kansas and made their home in Olathe.
Brian worked as a quality control technician for Jason Empire from 1975 to 1990, and later continued his career with Euro Tool until his retirement. Outside of work, he remained devoted to his artistic pursuits, often painting beautiful sunsets that reflected his appreciation for life’s simple, peaceful moments. He built quite the collection of beautifully detailed model ships over the years.
Brian had a deep affection for his cats and cared for them lovingly. He was fascinated by history, particularly the story of the Titanic, and was a member of the Titanic Historical Society. He also loved to travel, spending time in Colorado and enjoying many cruises with Jennine. Together, they shared 11 cruises, where Brian especially enjoyed relaxing on the deck with a drink in hand, watching the ocean stretch endlessly before him.
He cherished family gatherings, loved listening to music, and took great pride in being a grandfather. He rarely missed a dance or baton performance, always showing his support with warmth and enthusiasm. Brian was known for his great sense of humor, and those who knew him could always count on him for a good laugh.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Jennine of Olathe, Kansas; his son, David with partner Michelle of Shawnee; David’s former spouse, Janee Johnson; his daughter, Joanne, and son-in-law, Vince Haworth of Ft. Myers, Florida; and his four grandchildren, Gayle and spouse Ashley, Alex, Layson and her spouse Pedro, and Jordan.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. And as a tribute to the many moments shared together, we will always save you a seat at O’Malley’s.
