As hard headed as he was, he was just as loving and hilarious. I loved late night discussions about video games and Game of Thrones, him making fun of me for my poor taste in musical theater (I loved the movie version of Into the Woods) and watching them together, and how much he supported all of you guys. I am so fortunate to have spent the last five years knowing him, and I sincerely wish that I could have had so many more.  He and Mimi opened their home to me more times than I can remember, and I am so glad that they did, because I feel like a part of the family. 

One Christmas around 1967 we moved to a new neighborhood. While walking up my steps after a tiring day moving what to my wonderous eyes did appear but a tiny boy with golden hair, bright blue eyes and a smile that would light up the world.  That's how I met Darrell Everson. By the way when I see you again  Darrell I promise I won't make you eat my spaghetti.   Rest in peace sweet boy.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Daryl Everson or his wife Mimi,but I have heard so much about them from my Great -Granddaughter Katelyn (his daughter -in-law.She loves both these people with all her heart.They took her into their home,loved her and treated her as one of their own,so I never got to say these words to you,but from the bottom of my heart I thank you,and Mimi.God has a special place in Heaven for you.REST IN PEACE AND MAY GOD GIVE YOUR FAMILY  PEACE.

Chris and I were saddened and shocked to hear of your passing.  We were honored to have attended your wedding to our Mimi.  It was a crazy but a  beautiful time. I know I didn't know Darrell nearly as well as many family members or friends. Even though our paths only touched a handful of times, there are many things I will never, ever forget about Darrell or his melding with the Brabant family. Living in Maine, I was only in Darrell's line of -  fire? No. More like sympathetic comic relief - a handful of times. 

Most poignant was the first trip to Kansas when we met. A lifelong lover of musicals myself, he gave me a hand-across-lips-gasp-of-horror when he found out I *never* saw Into the Woods.  One pizza later, he plopped Mimi and me (the former for probably the 100th time; the latter for the first time) onto a loud 80s shag carpet in front of the TV and popped (using the phrase lightly) a LaserDisc of the musical into the player.  I was entranced. But even more than the acting and the singing... was being in awe that this seriously cool guy was willing to share Into the Woods with his backwoods almost-niece from New England.

Then came the wedding trip to Kansas followed by the Eversons' forays to Maine. Each encounter I had with Darrell was full of his incomparable wit,  unique/quirky insights into life in general, and innumerable belly laughs. 

Memories of those belly laughs with Darrell cushion the dagger sharpness that I feel today, and have felt since losing him on Monday. He was so admired and so loved.  And he will be sorely missed by many.



Every memory I have of Darrell is a positive one, he was a great friend, peer and performer.  So many all night poker parties...such a wonderful person.  Gone way too soon.   Sending all my love to Mimi and the rest of his family in this terrible time.   He will be truly missed.

We are so sorry for the sudden loss of Darrell.  He was an amazing man and this world was a better place because of him.  We couldn't have asked for a better "stand-in Dad" for Lexi during the in-home day care years.   We will miss the twinkle in his eye, ornery smile, and gentle spirit.  

We know this is an extremely difficult time for all of you; please know we are here to help in anyway!  Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Condolences to the family.  My parents were close to Darrell's parents because of their Rosedale connection.   I remember hanging out with Darrell in high school.  Designing his costume for The King and I.  We dated briefly.  Always managed to remain good friends.  I remember going to Starlight Theater to see him in Oliver.  I pray the lord gives you comfort in this time of grief. 


Mimi, I am so sorry to hear about Darrell.  He was a great man guy.  I worked with Darrell when I was in the Theatre Department from 1986-1988 in the scene shop  at  KU building sets.  My sincerest condolences to you and your family. 

We send our condolences to Mimi, Ben, Lindsay, Emily, and the rest of the family. Darrell was a great neighbor. He was there when my car wouldn’t start and got it going again. He was there when my son’s friend’s car needed to get unstuck in the snow at the front yard. He attended our family graduations and birthdays and we were always glad he joined the celebrations. A good man will be missed.

Rick and I were saddened to hear of your loss.  Rick has many fond memories of hanging out with Darrell in high school.  I met Darrell several times during our senior year when I started dating Rick.  I remember his warm smile and love for acting.  Our prayers go out to Darrell's parents, wife, children and daughter-in-law. 

I am very sorry for your loss and I want to extend my condolences to the Everson family.  
The very last conversation I had with him was Friday 3/1/19. I work with Darrell, we have this group chat for my team whenever weather gets bad we communicate through there. Someone in the chat said it took them 40 minutes to get to work on a snow day. Blake who is also on the billing team said he was still on his way. Then the following week we had another snow storm, Blake said he did a 360 on the highway. Darrell came up to me and was like, you know how Blake said he was on the road and did a 360? Maybe if he wasn’t texting and driving he would be a better driver. And I was laughing so hard. This was the very last memory with him and he brought joy to me. 

We had a birthday celebration for him 2 months ago, picture is attached. He had a great time. We got his favorite snacks, candy, dessert and drink. 
His sense of humor is like no other, an extremely kind and funny man, you will be missed Darrell!

Darryl and I used to play basketball in his backyard and imagined we were nba players.  I also remember his white car with the black stripes.  He was a very close friend of mine and I’m saddened by this news. 

So sorry to hear of the passing of cousin Darrell.  I remember all the times we as kids would come over for tacos, and the all of us kids would go play outside or in the basement.  All the while our folks would be playing cards or games.  My wife and I always saw him in the video store where he worked and I would say hi and talk of the good days.  May God bless the family!!!!!

For myself, and my wife Sabrina, we wish to extend our condolences to the entire Everson family. Darrell was an old friend from childhood and I have so many happy memories of days spent playing in our neighborhood. Evenings spent with Darrell, and his brother Gary, learning to play poker and listening to music. Darrell was always kind and caring to everyone he met. A good man gone too soon.


I am so sorry for your loss. I am holding you all in my heart and praying that God will wrap his loving arms around you with the comfort only He can give..
