George William Chesney, 93, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 9, 2022. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to everyone he knew.
George was born on September 5, 1929 in Olathe, Kansas to Emanuel William and Alma E. (Patton) Chesney. George attended and graduated from St. John Memorial High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. A veteran of the Korean War he served eleven years in the Marine Corp and then eleven years in the United States Air Force. After leaving the Military George became a Relator with A.J. Lang & Associates in Olathe, Kansas. He met the love of his life Eleanore Hannon and they were married on June 24, 1951. Together they raised their four children Steve, Stephanie, Scott and Shane. George also served on the Olathe City Council. He enjoyed spending time with his family and nothing gave him more pleasure in life than the time he spent with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
George is preceded in death by his parents, loving son, Scott Chesney who passed away in 2014 and his two brothers, Emerson Chesney and Bob Chesney. He is survived by his wife of seventy one years, Eleanore Chesney of the home. Survivors include his children, Steve Chesney and his wife Pat of Olathe, Kansas, Stephanie Chesney of Clermont, Florida and Shane Chesney and his wife Barb of Olathe, Kansas. George is also survived by his brother Kenneth Chesney of Laredo, Texas. Left behind to cherish his memory are his eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Memorial Service Sunday, September 18, 2022 starting at 3:00 p.m. First Baptist Church of Olathe 2024 East 151st Street Olathe, Kansas.
