.Gussie Calmer Whaley,88, of Gardner, KS passed away November 13, 2011 peacefully surrounded by his family. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home-Olathe. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the funeral home with burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Gussie was born February 13, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa. After briefly attending grade school he began working on the family farm. He was a very hard worker, building his own home in Olathe and holding several jobs throughout his life. He was employed by Myer Lumber, Schutte Lumber, Faultless Starch, as well as the State of Kansas and City of Olathe as the Cafeteria Manager. He loved spending time in the outdoors fishing and also talking with his many friends over the phone.
Mr. Whaley was preceded in death by his wife, Fern (Coffey) Whaley, son, Doug Whaley and 1 brother.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Martha Lauver, Amy Pittman and Sugar Mooney; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
