Marie Allen, 91, of Aberdeen Village, Olathe, KS passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on November 24, 2018 in the Assisted Living Room at Aberdeen Village, 17500 West 119th St., Olathe, KS 66061.

Marie was born in Marysville, Ohio, on August 19, 1927 to Joe and Ivy Reed and was the oldest of their three children. Her brothers John (Norma) and Marvin still live in the Ohio/Indiana area.

Marie met the love of her life, Clyde, at Boston High School (Boston, Indiana pop ~ 200). They were married after college and moved to the St. Louis area where their children, Linda (Tim), Karen (Chuck) and Bill (Janet) were born.

Marie was gifted in the arts and chose to utilize those gifts in the care of her family and friends. She delighted in serving others. She was the “Go To” Mom; the one that Linda, Karen and Bill's friends could turn to, Bill’s ‘Band Mom’, the one the neighbors could count on, and of course, was the anchor for her family.

Marie was active in her church throughout her life, leading Bible study groups and teaching Sunday School classes both in St. Louis and Ft. Myers, FL where they moved when Clyde retired. After Clyde passed away in 2015, Marie moved to Aberdeen Village to be near her daughter Linda. Even after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Marie continued to think of others by volunteering for several Alzheimer’s research studies. Despite the fact this was difficult for her, it was very important to her to assist with research that would benefit future generations.

When Marie's children were young a friend gave her a journal to keep notes in. From that day forward, for as long as she could, Marie kept a journal including interesting family activities from that day and daily devotions based on bible verses. Excerpts from those journals are posted by her children at https://meditationsofmymomsheart.com/. Even though by the time Marie moved to Aberdeen she rarely communicated verbally, she became somewhat of a “celebrity” as the chaplain (Diane Gunsolley) shared excerpts from Marie’s journals with residents and visitors alike.

Clyde and Marie have six grandchildren, Eric (Sarah), Tina, Chase, Cassidy, Brittany and Courtney. They also have three great-grandchildren (Eric): Corbin, Kira and Owen. Marie loved being surrounded by family and particularly treasured times when family visited. She will be missed by her many friends and all her family. She always had a smile that lit up the room.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
