

James “Jay” Calvin Franklin, 60 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017. He will be fondly remembered as a loving son, dad, grandpa, brother and friend to everyone he met. Jay was born on January 15, 1957 in Odessa, Texas to Harvey and Betty (Bingham) Franklin. Jay attended Hocker Grove Elementary School. He worked as an over the road truck driver for Penske Trucking Co. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter Leslee and especially his two grandchildren, Jesse and Skylar. Jay also found the time to ride his motorcycle, attend the race track and cook up his favorite’s either in the kitchen or on the grill. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Jay is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Calvin Franklin. He is survived by his mother Betty D. Franklin of Raytown, MO, daughter, Leslee Weers and her husband Jesse of Parker, Kansas, brother, Chuck Franklin and his wife Blanca of Raytown, MO, and sister Debbie Whited and her husband Dan of Raytown, MO. Left behind to cherish his memory are his two grandchildren: Jesse Weers and Skylar Weers. On Behalf of the family they would like to especially thank Good Shepherd Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to their father.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26th at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 East Loula Street, Olathe, Kansas. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cadmus Cemetery in Parker, Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening January 25th at the Funeral Home.
