Maria de Lourdes Tejada Acosta de Trejo, age 58, passed away on April 6, 2026. Born on February 18, 1968, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life reflected steady faith, devoted service, and enduring love. After this introduction, she will be remembered as Maria, a woman known for her generous spirit and steadfast devotion to God and to others.
Born and raised in Honduras, Maria was remarkably gifted with numbers—so good at math that, as her family lovingly recalls, she could get the right answer simply by being told the question. That sharp mind stayed with her throughout life, paired with practical wisdom and a calm strength that helped guide those around her.
Maria was married for 30 years to Roberto Trejo. She was deeply loved by her five children and six grandkids and cherished by many more whose lives she touched. She taught her family the word of God and encouraged them to do their best—not only in their own lives, but also in caring for others. She believed in going into the streets to give food to the homeless, living out compassion through action. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 91, a source of comfort and courage that reflected her trusting heart. One of her proudest moments was seeing her children graduate high school.
Maria loved to volunteer in arts and crafts, and she loved to cook—sharing food as one more way to share love. Most importantly, she loved to tell people about JESUS. She was a soldier of The Salvation Army of Olathe, and she loved working and cooking at the Three Trails Camp. In every setting, Maria looked for ways to help others in whatever way she could.
Her commitment to the community was long and faithful. Maria volunteered at The Salvation Army of Olathe for 23 years, and she also helped the Olathe School District for 17 years. She volunteered for many years at Three Trails Camp, cooking and cleaning with quiet dedication. To many, she was “a mom to everyone,” and at church she was known for having candy to give to kids—small gestures that carried a great deal of warmth.
Maria’s legacy is one of faith-filled guidance and tender care. She taught about Jesus from the time her children were very young, teaching them how to pray and to keep their eyes on Jesus no matter what they were going through. She loved to sing, and she read Proverbs 22:6 to her family: “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” She kept Bible verses around the house as reminders that JESUS is a strong foundation. If someone needed a hug, Maria would give one—freely and sincerely.
Maria often shared her testimony and spoke to people about Jesus, offering advice with a steady, reassuring confidence. She would often say that God’s plan is way better than ours, a message that brought encouragement to many. Above all, she taught those she loved to follow JESUS no matter what they faced, and to always give the honor and glory to Him.
