Born on May 26, 1931, near Houston, Texas, Marjorie was the daughter of Vernon Claude Batie and Florence Archer Batie. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Adam Batie, and her devoted husband, Amos Edward Eastridge, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2002.
Marjorie graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Elementary Education and was a proud lifelong Cornhusker fan. She spent over 35 years as a kindergarten teacher, a role she embraced with patience, creativity, and deep love for her students. Her gentle influence shaped countless young lives, and her classroom was always a warm and welcoming space.
She and Amos made their home in Omaha, Nebraska, where they raised their family and enjoyed the community for many decades. In 2001, they moved to Alderson, West Virginia, and following Amos’s passing, Marjorie later relocated to the Kansas City area in 2022 to be closer to family.
Marjorie was an avid sports fan — especially fond of college football — and cheered enthusiastically for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Green Bay Packers. She also had a lifelong love of animals, especially cats, and found companionship and joy in her pets throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria (Edward Marton, Jr.) Smith; her grandson, Addison Yates (Angela) Miller; her granddaughter, Carolyn (Virgil) McElhaney of Hays, Kansas; and her great-grandson, Addison William Bliss Miller.
Marjorie had a flair for style, and her daughter fondly remembers her tremendous love for purses and shopping. Some of her most cherished memories include a special trip to New York City, where she saw Wicked and Sweet Charity on Broadway — a dream come true for someone who appreciated art, culture, and the thrill of travel.
Marjorie will be remembered for her strength, her love of family, her boundless kindness, and the joy she brought to others through her laughter, her classroom, and her everyday presence. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the memories held by those who loved her.
She will be laid to rest with a private service in Alderson, West Virginia.
