Melba “Jeanne” Divine, 82 of Olathe, Ks. passed away on Friday May 14, 2021 at Blackhawk Assisted Living in Spring Hill, Ks. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to everyone she knew.
“Jeanne” as she was known by her family and friends was born in LaJunta, Colorado to Hugh and Melba Winfree. Her early childhood was spent there until her family moved to Olathe, Ks. She attended and graduated from Olathe High School. She met and married the love of her life, Jesse W. Divine on April 27, 1957. Together they raised their son Greg in Olathe and enjoyed living for shorter periods of time in Los Angeles, Calif. and Kodiak, Alaska, as that is where Jess was stationed per the Navy. Jess retired from the military and they returned back to their family home in Olathe.
Jeanne enjoyed being a housewife most of her adult life. She was an active member of Ridgeview Baptist Church for many years. She later attended College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe. She loved bowling and joined a women’s bowling league with her mother and friends. She continued bowling for many years until health issues unfortunately stopped her. Her other hobbies included crafts, shopping and definitely collecting, mostly anything Hallmark. This interest led her to a part-time job at a Hallmark store where she had so much fun and spent most of her income on collectibles! She loved spending time with family and friends. She adored her three grandchildren and was very involved in their early years.
Sadly Alzheimer’s disease became a reality and she moved to Blackhawk Assisted Living for her last years. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Melba Winfree, her loving husband of 43 years Jess Divine, who passed away in November of 2000, two brothers Gary and Jim Winfree and her faithful companions “Mopsy” and “Oscar.”
She is survived by her son Greg Divine and his loving wife Kelly of Olathe, Ks. Left behind to cherish her memory are her three grandchildren Shandi Divine of Olathe, Ks, Aaron Divine of Spring Hill, Ks, and Riley Divine of Olathe, Ks. She will be sadly missed by her three great grandchildren Bodhi, Jaxon and Zoey Divine. Also by Aaron’s loving wife Lisa Divine, all of Spring Hill, Ks.
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, May 24th, 2021 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 S. Black Bob Road Olathe, Ks. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her honor to: Alzheimer’s Association.
