Nancy Jane Williams Shepard, age 78, passed away peacefully with family by her side, her battle with cancer finally over on July 15. She was born June 22, 1944, to Don F. Williams and Virginia Gsell Williams of Olathe, Kansas. She spent her entire life in Olathe. Her childhood consisted of reading Katie Keene comic books, cutting out paper dolls, playing marbles and kick the can, and roller skating at the Olathe roller rink. She loved family vacations in Estes Park, CO, and music camps in Boulder, CO. Music was a big part of her life, and she was very talented. She sang in the Methodist church choir, high school chorales, and musicals and was accomplished at the piano, flute, and guitar. She attended the University of Kansas from 1962-1966 and graduated with a BFA in Music Education, and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Phi sorority in Lawrence. Nancy was a devoted member of the P.E.O. sisterhood for 56 years and served in most of the offices of her chapters, FL and GR. She supported its ideals of “Women helping women achieve their goals through education” and shared her time, money, and energy to help her chapters grow. She married Burton Monroe Shepard III, the love of her life, on September 10, 1974, and celebrated their 47th anniversary last fall. Soon after their marriage, they added their son Joshua into their circle of love. A celebration of life social time to share happy memories with friends and family will be held from 2-4 pm on July 30, 2022, in the dining room of The Gardens at Creekside, 16110 W 133rd St, Olathe, KS 66062.
