Peggy LaVaun Young, 99, of Paola, Kansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on December 20, 2024. Peggy will be forever cherished as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
Born on May 10, 1925, in Olathe, Kansas, Peggy’s life was defined by her love for her family and her passion for sports. She never missed a game, cheering passionately for the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and Phoenix Suns. Her home was the heart of the family, hosting weekly dinners where children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gathered to share laughter, love, and cherished memories.
Peggy was truly the life of the party, always ready with a funny story, a witty remark, or an entertaining moment that left everyone laughing. Her lively spirit and ability to light up a room will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Young, and her son, Darryl Young. She is survived by her children: Diana Kinder of Paola, Kansas; Chuck Young of Olathe, Kansas and Terresa Steckenrider of Spring Hill, Kansas. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 East Loula Street, Olathe, Kansas. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, with interment at Olathe Memorial Cemetery, 738 North Chestnut, Olathe, Kansas.
