Russell "Russ" L. Plummer

Russell L. Plummer, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 6, 2015. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met.

Russ was born on June 25, 1924 in De Soto, Kansas to Mabon and Gladys (Hackler) Plummer. He attended and graduated from De Soto High School. After graduation at the age of 18 he joined the U. S. Army and served during World War II Reconnaissance Squad European Theater where he was discharged with Honors. Soon after in the year 1950 he returned to school and earned his teaching degree from Emporia State Teachers College. He married the love of his life Betty Lucile Dunmire on February 02, 1955. Through this union their two daughters were born Kathy and Jo.

Russ was an active member with the Abdallah Shrine. He participated in many different activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Mabon and Gladys Plummer and sister Margaret Johnston. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lucy Plummer and his faithful companion “Maggie” of the home, two daughters, Jo Large of Olathe, Kansas and Kathy Granger of Overland Park, Kansas. He will be sadly missed by his three grandsons: Bryan Granger, Aaron Large and Brandon Large, four great grandchildren: Bekkah Granger, Abbi Granger, Lilly Large and Charlie Large. Russ is also survived by his brother Clarence Plummer and his wife Carol of Overland Park, Kansas and sister, Freida Renner and her husband Gene of Overland Park, Kansas.

Russ will be cremated according to his wishes. A memorial service with Military Honors will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12th at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula St. Olathe, Kansas. Visitation 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Thursday prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.
