Ruth Njeri Mukuna was born on January 4th, 2000, in Kiambu, Kenya. She was the beloved daughter of Angelina Wanjiku Mukuna and the late Daniel Mukuna Waithaka. She is survived by her two older brothers, Norman Waithaka Mukuna and Ian Mwangi Mukuna. At the age of five, Ruth relocated with her immediate family to Olathe, Kansas, where she spent most of her life.
Ruth faced profound loss early in life, bravely pressing forward after the passing of her beloved father. She embodied perseverance, moving through challenges with grace and quiet strength. Ruth pursued her passion for psychology through her studies at JCCC, always eager to understand and uplift others.
Ruth dreamed of seeing the world, but her greatest calling was to help—to care for children, support single parents, and advocate for animals. She worked in healthcare, where her nurturing spirit and kindness touched those around her. Whether through her dreams or her daily actions, Ruth carried a heart devoted to service.
Ruth's kindness extended to every living being—especially her beloved dog, Tucker, whom she cared for devotedly since 2020. He was her constant companion, her best friend. Ruth loved taking long walks with him, sharing cuddles, and simply being in his joyful presence. The bond they shared was a quiet reflection of the love she gave so freely to all around her.
She is survived by many dear family members in Kenya, including her grandmother, Ruth Njeri Waithaka—her namesake—and her grandfather, Simon Kaburu Wambugu. She is fondly remembered by her aunts: Elizabeth Gashambi, Prichilla Nyokabi, Mary Mwangi, and Susan Wangui; and her uncles: Solomon Wanyeki, King’ara, Anthony Waweru, James Mwangi, Samuel Kinyua, and Jonah Wambugu. She shared her name with several cousins, including Ruth N. King’au and Ruth N. Wanyeki, along with Norman Wanyeki, Norman King’au, Simon Mwangi, James Kinyua, and Kihiro. Ruth was also a devoted auntie to Elizabeth Njambi Waithaka and Priscilla Nyokabi, among many others.
Ruth passed away suddenly in the early hours of Sunday morning, June 8th, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri.
It is God who gives, and it is God who calls us home. All we can do is pray that her soul rests in eternal peace.
