Shirley M. Mara Popanz

Shirley M. Popanz, 91, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on March 19, 2013 at Saint Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. She will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met. Shirley was born on July 18, 1921 in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin to Clarence Joseph and Albina H. (Prochaska) Mara.

Shirley is preceded in death by, her parents: Clarence and Albina Mara, loving husband: Orville Popanz and their loving daughter: Jeanne Gunn. Survivors include her children: James O. Popanz and his wife (Sue) of Rogers, Arkansas, John C. Popanz of Madison, Wisconsin and Susan (Susie) Popanz of Olathe, Kansas. Left behind to cherish her memory are her eight grandchildren:

Daryl Gunn (Marlene), Dennis Gunn (Kim), Jennifer Link (Del), Christi Fedarko (Ken), James Popanz, Brad Popanz (Julie), Dawn Higginbotham and Cory Popanz, along with her twelve great grandchildren: Michael Link, Jared Gunn, David Gunn, Ashlynn Gunn , Roxi Popanz, Carolynn Fedarko, Zachery Fedarko, Jacob Fedarko, Matthew Popanz, Morgan Popanz, Chelsey Popanz and Madisyn Popanz.

Shirley is also survived by, her brother: C.J. Mara and his wife (Barbara) of Jamesville, Wisconsin and brothers-in-law: Don Popanz and his wife (Lola) of Madison, Wisconsin and Carl Popanz and his wife (Lois) of North Carolina.

Shirley was cremated according to her wishes. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date in her home town in Wisconsin. Memorial contributions may be made to: Heartland SPCA 5428 Antioch Drive Merriam, Kansas 66202.
