Therese Eileen (Meeker) Roberts was born on April 13, 1947 in Tomah, Wisconsin to Maryellen (Nienas) and Ralph Edwin Meeker. Therese was the second of six children, including Jan, Randy, David, Mary Beth, and Joan. With Ralph in the Army, the family lived all over the United States and even in Karlsruhe, Germany for a few years during Therese’s high school years. Upon returning to the U.S., Therese married and had two children, Kevin Barnes and Michelle (Barnes) Roberts. She managed to be a full-time mother as well as work full time in various capacities, including real estate, running a grocery store, and being an office manager for two different medical practices over her 45-year career.
Therese learned at an early age to embrace meeting new people, and it is a trait she carried with her all of her life. She never met a stranger! She had a way of making people feel welcome and “at home.” Ever the social being that she was, she remained active in the Overseas Brats organization, keeping in touch with her high school friends and attending many reunions and events over the years. She also sang in her church choir and volunteered in numerous capacities and organizations. Her most endearing traits were her love for and dedication to her family, her incredible work ethic, and her wonderful sense of humor. One didn’t even have to meet her in person to get a sense of how funny she was - anyone who ever received a letter, e-mail, or text from her knew right away this woman had an incredible and infectious sense of humor.
Therese passed from this life on February 25, 2015 at her home in Eudora, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Maryellen Meeker, her oldest brother, Jan Meeker, and numerous grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She leaves behind her loving boyfriend, Hal Reusch; her son, Kevin Barnes, her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Clint Roberts, and her step-daughter, Brenna Sommerla; her brothers, Randy (and Glenda) Meeker and David Meeker, and her sisters, Mary Beth (and Greg) Pregon and Joan Meeker; and four grandchildren, Jordan, Ricky, C.J., and Payton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She leaves us all with the legacy of the incredible woman she was as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, volunteer, and loving caregiver for so many. She is loved and will be missed beyond measure.
Memorial services will be 4pm, Saturday, February 28th, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula St, Olathe, KS. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Plains SPCA. Offer your condolences at www.McGilley-Frye.com.
