Born in Union City, Tennessee, to Bob and Bobbie, Al was a 1970 graduate of Donelson High School, earned his degree in 1974 from the University of Tennessee at Martin and went on to serve as a Captain in the United States Marine Corp. An avid outdoorsman and lifelong supporter of the Tennessee Vols, Al lived and loved with an intensity all his own.
Al leaves behind his children, Corey Moffitt, husband Brian and children Zeke and Zoe; and Hunter Wharton, wife Whitney and child Adley; father Robert Wharton; and sister Karen Mayo. Preceding Al in death is his mother Bobbie Wharton.
