Barbara Ann Hawkins, a beloved resident of Madison, Alabama, passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on September 9, 1933, Barbara was a devoted, faithful, and hard-working individual who touched the lives of many with her compassionate and humorous nature.
Barbara was a devoted mother who exemplified a strong work ethic for her family. She was always cleaning, washing, and cooking, often packing surprises in her children's school lunches. Although she would not eat fish or fowl, she never denied her family these pleasures, regularly frying chicken, preparing fried fish, and cooking the Thanksgiving turkey. She taught her children manners and encouraged them to read and learn. Barbara was known for decorating her home for every holiday season.
In her personal life, Barbara enjoyed scrapbooking long before it became a fad. She loved making Christmas cookies to share with friends, family, and her children's teachers. She also had a passion for ceramics.
Barbara was deeply dedicated to the Old Hickory Church of the Nazarene, where she volunteered for fifty years. Her commitment to her church and family was unwavering, and she was known for her resilience and loyalty.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Eddie Hawkins, her father Wallace Koehler, her mother Josephine McNertney Bruff, and her brother Wallace Bruff.
Barbara is survived by her children: Cindy Knecht (Scott), Carole Agee (Dick), and Jim Hawkins (Jennifer). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Mike Pitzer, Brad Pitzer (Kaatje), LeeAnn Laws (Nathon), Matthew Agee (Ashley), Katelyn Hawkins, David Hawkins (Morgan), and Abigail Hawkins. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Haley Clark (James), Logan Pitzer (Chastity), Kyleigh Pitzer, Kyndal Pitzer, Kennedy Pitzer, Kinsley Pitzer, Knox Pitzer, Jameson Laws, Jonathon Laws, Grayson Laws, Gideon Agee, Ruth Agee, Evelyn Robbins, Elijah Hawkins, Olivia Hawkins, Esther Hawkins, and Asher Hawkins, as well as her great-great-grandchildren: Easton Clark, Carson Clark, and Hazel Pitzer.
Barbara Ann Hawkins will be remembered as a devoted, loving mother who could be firm in raising her children, yet could be quite humorous with friends. Her dedication to church and family leaves a lasting legacy for all who knew her.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will at 2:00 pm in the Tulip Grove Chapel at the funeral home home with Rev. Don Rucker, officiating. Jim Hawkins, David Hawkins, Brad Pitzer, Barry Sherrill, Barry Robertson and Glen Baun will serve as pallbearers. Following the service, Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Garden of the Cross at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
