Dixie was born August 6, 1939 in Dover, Tennessee to the late, Wilbur and Bertha Wallace. She was raised by her beloved grandparents. As a child, she often traveled by horse-drawn wagon with her midwife grandmother “Ma Josie” who delivered babies across rural Stewart County. In her teenage years, Dixie’s family moved to Detroit. It was there that she met the love of her life, James Martin Rich. During their time in Detroit, they welcomed their daughter, Karen and son, Timmy. With the desire to raise their children in their home state, they moved to Madison, Tennessee in 1969. Dixie enjoyed several office careers including working for the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, and at Madison Hospital (now Tristar Madison) as a key punch operator. She was also a successful insurance salesperson with Associated Doctors winning multiple sales awards.
Dixie was a member of the West Hills Women’s Club where she deeply enjoyed community and socializing with her dear friend Jody. She had a strong passion for life and a tenacious spirit. She was intelligent with a strong business acumen. Her infectious laugh, sense of humor, and personality captured the heart and love of all those around her. She and her husband found joy in traveling the world and camping with family, especially with their grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dixie is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James; son, Timmy; brothers Glenn and George Wallace; sisters Helen Schwarzmeier, and Edna Mae Clark. She is survived by daughter, Karen Elliott (Dave); grandchildren (who call her Nana), James Elliott and Brooke Elliott; her brother, Phil Wallace (Marie); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dixie was strong and courageous in this life and has now passed into new life to be with her Heavenly Father. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, keen sense of style, her loyalty and deep love for family, friends, and animals.
