Doris Smith, 85 of Old Hickory, TN passed away Thursday April 11, 2024. Doris was born in Hartsville, Tennessee on May 29, 1938 to William and Bessie Montgomery. Doris grew up on a farm in Gladeville, Tn with her 15 siblings. She graduated from the Lebanon High School. Following high school Doris worked as a phone operator and later she worked in the cafeteria of Lakeview Elementary School.
She met William Barry Smith and their wedding date was April 7, 1961. They were married for 57 years. Doris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed making arts and crafts, crocheting, quilt making and sewing (with all of her sisters), tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and loved canning vegetables from the garden. She made all her children’s clothes when they were young and was an expert seamstress. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was involved in WMU until her later years. She was very dedicated to her faith and it showed in every step she took. She was loved deeply and will be missed by her family and friends.
Doris is survived by her daughters; Kimberly Dawn (Donald) Walker and Kelly Denise (Ken) Herndon, grandson, Tyler Herndon and Ryan Herndon, brothers; David Lewis Montgomery, Charlie Montgomery, Neal Montgomery and Grady Montgomery, sisters; Mabel Stephens, Betty Ricketts, Shelia Edwards and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday April 16, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and again Wednesday from 9:00 – 11:30AM at the Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute lane, Old Hickory, TN. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 AM in the Tulip Grove chapel of the funeral home with pastor Chuck Groover officiating. Interment to follow in the Garden of Peace.
Serving as pallbearers are: Bryan Montgomery, Adam Montgomery, Eric Montgomery, Johnny Edwards, Tyler Herndon and Ryan Herndon.
