

There is a heavenly garden in which God takes pleasure because he placed within it the loved ones he treasures.He walks among the blossoms giving them eternal rest. I know that it must please him because he chose our very best.
Today we celebrate the life and mourn the passing of our beloved Mother,Grandmother,Sister,Aunt Cousin and friend.
Hattie Marie Figgins-Walker born Feb. 24, 1926 departed this life Aug. 6, 2012. She was the 2nd of seven children born to late Dee Van Figgins and Mary Ann Harris-Figgins of Sumner County, Gallatin, TN.She was educated in the public schools of Sumner County. She was married to the late Leslie E. Walker and to this union four children were born.
Marie was a devoted, kind and loving Mother and her children were her life. After she raised her children, she took great joy and pleasure in tending to her vegetable garden and a yard full of beautiful flowers. She was a very talented cook and seamstress makin the most gorgeous Afghans & crochet doilies and centerpieces. She also mad several trips to the Bahamas and enjoyed collecting antiques and glassware.
Marie was honest and forthright in all her dealings and took great pride in the success and achievements of her children whom she raised as a single parent. She expected and got the best from her children who were high achievers. Dorothy Ann Elder received a Master of Science degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University. Robert Allen served in the US Army, Special Forces 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper and he was the recipient of the Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Lewis Edward was a tractor trailer driver who owned and operated his "rig" crisscrossing the country from coast to coast. Cora Marie (Allen) Jackson-Chadler received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from University of Tennessee and a Master's degree in Health Administration. She also served in Air National Guard for several years and later served full-time in the US Air Force following a Desert Storm tour of duty.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brother, two sisters and twin sons. She is survived by two daughters (Dorothy Ann and Cora Marie), daughter -in-law (Patricia Swingler-Walker), two sisters (Bettie Pleasant and Catherine Peacock), sister -in-law (Dorothy Figgins), Donis Olive, devoted friend and caregiver, stepdaughter (Bobbie Jean Malone), ten grandchildren (Anthony {Yolanda} Elder, Ronald {Shauna} Jackson, Bryan Jackson, Sandra Walker, Felechia Walker, Sherri Walker, Latrechia Walker, Annette (Kerry) Frazier, Ketura {Melvin} Yarber and Lewis Jameson Walker), nineteen great- grandchildren and a host of devoted nephews, nieces, cousins and other family connections.
