Shirley walked two and a half miles to and from Teepee Creek School during her grade school years. She attended High School in Sturgis. She enjoyed her life on the farm, where she learned to ride horses and also draw pictures of them. She took her little brother, Carroll, to school on horseback everyday as his school was three miles away. She knew most of the wildflowers and birds by name. She was tenderhearted towards all of God's Creation. It was on the farm she learned to drive her father's four-wheel drive Jeep.
Shirley attended Sunday School at home. During that time, she came to know the Lord and gave her life to Him. Though her love for the farm and horses was so great that she never wanted to leave it, her love for the Lord was greater. She followed His leading to a missionary training school in California. This training led her to the Spanish speaking people of Mexico (three years) and Spain (thirty years).
Shirley spent thirty years in personal evangelism in Spain. While there she also nannied for other missionaries. She was a very special person, when one considers how shy she was as a youth and how bold she became as a witness of Christ's great salvation. We will remember her for that. Only her Spanish Spiritual Family can fill us in on her life in Spain. Some of her Spanish family even visited her in the United States after she retired.
Shirley spent her retirement years with her sister, Sarah, her brother, Charles, and his wife, Lorraine, and her brother, Harley, and his family. She was living with Harley's wife, Frances, and daughter at the time of her going home to be with our Lord.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Howard Cash and Mabel Luella (Dopp) Cash, sisters Virginia Angelee Cash, Rachel Lavanchie (Cash) Driskill (Warren), Sarah Mabel Cash and her brothers Charles Howard (Lorraine) and Harley. She is survived by her brother Carrol Cash (Ruth) and sister-in-law Frances Cash (Harley) and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Shirley's ver was 1 Timothy 1:15: "This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief."
