

John T. Duncan Jr., born on July 29, 1947, passed away on December 16, 2025, at the age of 78. A resident of Gallatin, Tennessee, John was known for being selfless, kind-hearted, generous, faithful, and devoted.
Preceded in death by his sister Patricia and mother Mary Forewright.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bernice Duncan; daughters Veronica and James Mayville, Rebecca and Rusty McKnight, and Rhonda Lane; eight-plus grandchildren and 10-plus great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
John had a distinguished career, having served in the Army and later as a police officer for the Metro Airport. His dedication was evident in all his professional endeavors.
He cherished his family deeply and had a wide range of interests that brought him joy. John found pleasure in fishing, stained glass, cutting grass, and watching wrestling and the Super Bowl. He enjoyed playing Canasta, going to yard sales as well as flea markets. He also had a fascination with Bigfoot, aliens, UFOs, and enjoyed being Santa Claus.
John loved his cat, Coco, and his dog, Frankie. He also enjoyed collecting many unique items over the years, including belt buckles, knives, and shot glasses, each with its own story.
In the community, John and his wife held leadership roles as president and grand master of the Odd Fellows Grand Lodge and Rebeccas. His involvement in these organizations showed his commitment to community service and fellowship.
John never met a stranger, a testament to his warm and welcoming nature. His legacy of kindness, generosity, jokes and curiosity will be remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Monday, December 22, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. ~ 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. ~ 1:30 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 1:30 p.m. and burial to follow, all at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN 37138.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to ASPCA or to a humane society of your choice.
