

Age 89 of Hermitage, TN. March 1, 2012. Preceded in death by wife, Beth Alexander Howell of over 54 years and parents Lewis David Howell, Sr. and Dovie Ritchey Howell. Survived by sons, David Howell of Nolensville, TN, Danny (Cheryl) Howell of Oak Hill, Virginia, daughters, Sarah (John) Larkins of Old Hickory, TN, Sharon (Dave) Bollenbacher of Stephenville, TX, Lynda (Wade) Smith of Woodstock, GA, grandchildren Allison Howell, Kendra Elder, Joshua Howell, Tiffany Howell, Caleb Bollenbacher, Chelsea Smith, Shannon Larkins, Samuel Bollenbacher, Brooke Smith, Rachel Larkins, Emily Bollenbacher, Anna Claire Smith, Sydney Seed, Meaghan Larkins, Corbett Howell; great-grandchildren, Gabe Elder and Bryce Elder; also preceded in death by brother Lowery Howell and sisters Sarah Louise Martin and Elizabeth Hilton. Survived by sisters Ernestine Riddle (Lake Jackson, Texas), Lyndell Johnston (Gulfport, Mississippi), and brother Lawrence Carey Howell (Tampa, Florida).
L.D. was born in Macon, Georgia and spent much of his childhood in and around McComb, Mississippi. L.D. participated in The Civil Conservation Corps in Oregon as a young man. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and Medic in World War II in the Pacific during armed landings of the Asian Pacific Campaign. He also served in the Korean Conflict. He met his wife, Beth, while they were both attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. L.D. was a preacher at several small churches in Mississippi and Indiana. Dr. Howell was a college professor teaching Business Law and other business courses at several universities – Mississippi College for Women, Auburn University, University of Evansville and he spent 27 years as a professor at Tennessee State University (formerly UT, Nashville). Mr. Howell was a deacon and long-time member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church in Hermitage, Tennessee. He was also a member of the Breakfast Club at Hardees in Hermitage, Tennessee.
Memorials can be made to the Missions fund at Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at Hermitage Hills Baptist
Church at 2 P.M. on Sunday, March 4, 2012 with Dr. Poly Rouse officiating. Also assisting in the service will be Dave Bollenbacher, son-in-law of Mr. Howell. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, 4-8 P.M. and Sunday 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN 37138 (615) 889-0361. Interment will be on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
