Thoughts of David fill my mind each day now, but never as much as when I walk through the door each morning and look for him to tell me "Hello" and ask " How are you today?"
 David was a kind and loving young man and it showed in whatever he was doing, whether he was helping and elderly customer to her car, getting a wheelchair for someone, or handing a smiley face sticker to a crying child.
 The person David became is a tribute to both of you and the loving home he came from. Thank you for letting Kroger and myself be a part of his life, without trying he has taught much to all of us.
 May God keep you close to Him during this time and in the months to come.

...it's a Good Hurt
Wednesday afternoon while working out at the Fitness Center, our good friend David Dugger answered God's call and started home. He had lived a full life, had given full measure, and remained faithful to the Lord. Oh, to have that said of me. He was a blessing to all who knew him. Not only would he keep you humble, He would lift you up, give you something to laugh about, and make you ashamed you ever complained. David was a happy man and what this world needs is more happy people.
It's Saturdeay evening and like so many others, I am emotionally drained. Is it because of David's loss? Well, yes, but it is also because two of my best friends are hurting. When they hurt, I hurt. Borrowing a phrase from Don Dugger, my hurt  " is a good hurt" and it is my way of reaching out. I pray now to God for wisdom to say the right thing, do the right thing, and be the right person for them at this time. They are so special to us, to the church at Old Hickory and to God. We all love Don and Janice.

We were both saddened and shocked last Wednesday, as we learned of David Dugger's death. In his 34 years of life, he influenced a large number of people in a very positive way. His love for the Lord and his willingness to volunteer for any job truly endeared him to our church family. He may well have been the most underappreciated member we had. As a real tribute to him, I have been impressed with those who are " stepping up" to fill the jobs that he did.

Dear Mr and Mrs Dugger,
 Although I have never met you, your son David brought alot of sunshine and laughter into my everyday life. Even though I'm 60 years old he would "holler" across the Kroger parking lot and we would always see who could "out-kid" each other. He was the same with my daughter and 3 very young children. David's laughter, friendship and caring knew no one gender or age. He was the same to all our family and we all adored him!
I can only imagine the celebration in Heaven over David as he was a Christian who truly showed on this earth what Jesus asked us to do...to love one another. David was a true light shining in the darkness and made a sometimes dreary chore (grocery shopping) alot more fun!!
As for me and mine, we want to say, YOu raised a fine son and we'll all look for him in Heaven someday, just like we did at Kroger.

 What a wonderful son you raised!!! David usually managed to bag my groceries and we would be walking to my car and he would always say,"How you doing?" and I would always say, " Aw David, my back is killing me." He would say, " Dont worry, It'll get better."

I will always remember my uncle David because everyday we were there he would tickle me, my sister, and my 3 cousins when he got off of work.  He is also very known to say, "Slacker!" a lot to friends and family.  I will always love him and never forget him.  He was an AWESOME uncle!

Well, it's been two weeks since our world was rocked with David's passing. It still doesn't seem real. For him, on the other hand, there is no time, no sorrow, no regret...in fact, he probably has the greeter job now..."Hey! How ya doin'? Come on in here, slackard, we've been waitin' on ya!"

AAAAGHHH! I forgot about that till you said it! I believe Dave was standing by us, pointing and laughing, and saying, "now you'll eat it, that's right..." ha ha.

Hey Mike, there are so many memories...also, you left out the part about Mom making us eat the food after we put Tabasco in it... :)

Growing up with Dave was a joy. Dan and I used our "big brother" status to aggravate David a lot---but if anyone else tried it we were quick to let them know that one wrong move toward him and they would be toast. And we meant it.

David loved wrestling. When he was younger, wrestling was actually much better (actually moral) than it is today. David and Dan and I would play "wrestling" on Saturdays, and David would go around the room saying, "the chair, the chair" mimicking Saturday TV5 wrestling as he pretended to hit Dan and I with a chair. We, of course, would fall as if he had clobbered us.

David loved to eat cookies. Especially Oreos. One day Dan and I decided to have some fun with him. We took an Oreo, hollowed it out in the middle of the cream filling, and put in a few drops of Tabasco sauce. Then we said, "Hey Dave, want an Oreo?" David, much like Cookie Monster, consumed the cookie rapidly. Then, a strange look came on his face. He grabbed his throat and started running for the kitchen. Dan blocked the way. David ran to the bathroom, but I blocked the way. By this time David is holding his throat with both hands and hollering! (I know I know, it sounds rude but we are BROTHERS remember!). Anyway, we let him finally have some water, and he was just fine. I believe after that he gave his infamous comment to us, "I'm gonna get you..." but he loved the attention!

So many other stories come to mind. I am happy where David is now--but I still miss him here.
I have enjoyed reading all of these notes above, and I know my family has too. Thanks to everyone for them.

Well said Scott. David used of all his passion and strength to do whatever he did. I remember so many mornings stopping at Kroger and he would be gathering all of the grocery carts - sometimes a very long "train" of them. He was definitely one of the most dedicated workers Kroger ever had. His love for camp goes back to the days when he was camper. Camp will not be the same without him. Again, he loved it and gave it his all every year. What a special person he was. We all will miss David very much and I know the church at Old Hickory will miss him too.

David loved Kroger. David loved the Vols. David loved scouts. David loved church camp. David loved OHCoC. I think that says it all, doesn't it?...David loved... What more could you say about anyone? David loved

When the kids came home from camp they were so excited.One of their favorite memories of course telling about Dave dodging.At night he would come out with the flaselight and LOOK around for any KIDS not in ther correct place.The kids would dodge the flaslight and run and hide...They loved it and he new exactly what was going on...I asked him at Church the following Sunday and he just smiled and laughed.Ill never forget that smile...:)
Just one more...Dave was really dialed in on what went on at the Church.My wife Lisa bakes the bread each Sunday and our family does the Lord supper on Sunday and we unlock the building.We even get there before Jimmy does--Just barely.. :) .Dave would come early alot of Sunday's and check up on us making sure all was being done OK.And of course we would get in those long VOLLS discussion's.A REAL TN fan.I loved it.No Alabama,Auburn,or Vandy stuff Just all orange real TN stuff! What am I going to do now?I will REALLY miss that.I think it will feel a little empty for a while.GOD bless you Dave.

I'm going to miss his smile, he was so eager to do what he could for the lord. He had such a sweet spirit. I too will miss his serving in the Lord's Supper. You could tell he put his whole heart in everything he did at the church.

David's death has touched each one of us in our family. Both Tyler and Mackenzie both enjoyed being with David at Church Camp. I remember his excitement over the counselor softball games. I am not a softball player, but Dave encouraged me and told me to "Run" after I finally hit the ball! Of course, he was always eager and happy to serve all the hungry campers and staff with a huge smile. I know that he will be missed by the kitchen staff! Don (being a huge Alabama fan) always enjoyed the UT football conversations with him. 

As Lisa noted above, I will miss his serving in our Lord's Supper. 

His smile and happy attitude will be missed. He is so happy today and we are rejoicing with him...but we will miss him. Heaven is going to be wonderful!!!

For many years David sat with us at every worship service. It was here that I began to learn about David's school activities, scouts, etc. He loved school and scouts and the camping trips. I was privileged to see him get his Eagle Scout Award and we all felt such pride for David.

A little later my memories were made at Bible Camp. We had so much fun at camp together and David was a big part of camp. Washing dishes, helping make kool-aid (also known as bug juice), playing softball, going out at night with his flash light, drinking his straight black coffee (sugar and cream were for sissies), were just a few of the many memories made at Fall Creek Falls.

Then came Kroger.....David loved his work at Kroger's and everyone there loved David. He was always there to help you in any way he could and always ready to tell you he was going to camp.

Mostly and more importantly my memories are at Old Hickory Church of Christ. David loved God and the Church. He always had his Bible, and a willing heart to help in any way he could. He locked the doors, closed the auditorium doors, locked up the building, and waited on the Lord's table most Sundays. One Sunday many years ago, I looked over at David as we were singing.."I'll be somewhere listening for my name" and I could not hold back the tears because I knew that one day David would hear his name and I truly believe that David will hear his name and also the words.....WELL DONE.....Thank you David for being my friend all these years!!

I have wonderful memories of David at camp. His attitude and enthusiasm would affect everyone, I had the priviledge of having David in class, as a teen and as an adult. 
We usually talked about UT and Vandy or work. David loved to" kid around".
We both enjoyed that

I agree with Charles in that I could go on and on with stories and fond memories of Dave. One that keeps coming to mind is from several years ago. Dan had an Isuzu Trooper that was prone to breaking down. One night we there were several of us riding with Dan, including Dave,(I believe we were going bowling) and you can imagine the noise from the rickety 'ole Trooper loaded with several young men! Somewhere along the way, amongst the ruckus, we heard a noise that could only be that of a flat tire. Dan pulls over to the side, checks the tires, only to find that theyare all just fine.As we begin to get back under way, the noise resumes, thump, thump thump. Dan pulls back over. Meanwhile, I notice the unmistakable snicker of Dave who is sitting beside me. It was a nice night, and we had all the windows down. Dave had his arm hanging out the window slapping the door as we rolled along to make the sound of the thumping flat tire!!! What a great sense of humor! We will all miss Dave's infectious smile and laugh. He will be greatly missed. We should all strive to be as willing to serve others as Dave was.

We are all in shock of the sudden loss of our friend David. I will so miss his smile and his peppy walk as he returned to his seat from helping most EVERY Sunday with the Lords Supper. Don't know that I ever saw David seem to be having a down day. Always smiling and upbeat. 

I know that all his customers and co-workers at Krogers will so miss enthusiasm in the store....I know I will. You were such a great Christian example to our kids and we so miss you already.

We could write volumes of the great memories we have of Dave Dugger. Don, Alan, and I shared a room with Dave in the Staff Cabin at camp. After Dave went to bed, he kept a close eye on everything at camp from our cabin window with his high-powered flashlight (at any hour of the night). At the end of camp, I told him if he brought that flashlight the next year, I was going to take the batteries out of it. The next year Dave wasn't worried. I could have the batteries. He brought an extra supply!! Dave Dugger, I will miss you. Shine your light on camp anytime you want.

I just can't believe that David is no longer with us. His big broad smile, his Tennessee ties, hearing him walk down the asile after serving communion with that look of determination, or joining into a conversation with "That's right".

David was a man of character, a man of his word, an Eagle scout, but most of all he was a Christian, a brother in Christ. Out of all the times that David had rode to different functions with our family, I never heard David say anything that was off color or crude. Yes, David was a very excitable person, but he was always able to control it. If you assigned David something to do, you could consider it done. You never had to ask a second time. David always wanted to please. He was a credit to Don and Janice and the Christian home and education that they gave him.

I know that Heaven is now a better place because David is there. Who knows, maybe he is opening and closing the gates there as well. My love and prayers go out to the entire Dugger family and I thank them and the good Lord for sharing David with us.

Church camp 1993 or 1994, cabin A-1 decided to do something special for the sadie hawkins dinner and we all wore tuxedos. Dave was so excited knowing we were doing that and knew exactly what time we needed to get ready by telling us, "It's time gentlemen...... come on ya bums!!"

Three years ago, when Paul & I moved back to Nashville, David was one of the first people we met at OHCofC. That first football season, I told David he needed to add some blue to his orange tie & cheer for Auburn. After that whenever David was wearing a Tennessee shirt, jacket or tie (he had them all!) before I could say anything, he would tell me he didn't need any blue with his orange. I'm going to miss his smile & cheerfulness.

I remember David and the annual Thursday softball game between the campers and the staff. David was so excited when he was able to play on the staff team. He always brought his glove and batting glove to camp. He would be so excited when he got a hit.

We knew David from shopping at Krogers. He was always such a delight and so very helpful. We will miss him and his wonderful smile and personality.

Dear Janice,
I have grown to love David- He was always smiling and would holler at me and I him - carrying on about our walking. He was such a delight, so happy and never complained.

David was one of our babies in the nursery and it was fun to watch him as he grew up. His beautiful hair and brown eyes made him a real cutie pie.
Laurie thought back to how special she felt when you asked her to babysit the boys, She was so pleased.

David was a wonderful person and loved by all.

words cannot express how my heart goes out to you and your family. I was so shocked to hear about David. I loved seeing him everyday when I worked at Kroger. He always knew how to make me smile. I remember giving him his flu shot several years when I was there. One year he was on vacation when we gave them at Hermitage and you brought him to a clinic I was doing at Goodlettsville. Roger and I were shocked and saddened to hear about David. He was one of those memorable students ~ hard working and always cheerful! I was so impressed with his work at Krogers. It always brought a smile to my face on the days David would sack my groceries. He always remembered that I would need his assitance taking the cart to my car. As soon as we got outside he would spot my red car and go right to it. We would always have a short chat on the way out. He would always tell me when he had a vacation coming up and would be so excited. David always had a smile on his face and was such an upbeat and hard woking person. He was a great asset to Krogers. You were fortunate to have such a fine young man as a son. I will truly miss David.

We can't begin to know the depth of your pain, but we will continually pray for you to experience comfort and peace from our Lord as time goes by. We are so very sorry for your loss. You are such loving parents and God honors you for loving and caring for your boys as you have. We are honored to have known him.
