Michael Ernest Tate Sr.

Michael Ernest Tate Sr. of Hermitage, TN entered into eternal rest October 15, 2024, at the age of 86. Michael was born in Opp, AL on December 9,1937. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years Myrna (nee Williams), his mother Kate Rainer Tate, and his daughter Kimberly Moya. He is survived by his children Michael Jr., Christopher (Linda), Molly Matheny (Chuck), Timothy (Alicia), and Jeremey (Michelle), his son-in-law John Moya, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

After stops in DeFuniak Springs, FL and Anniston, AL, Michael and Myrna settled down in Hermitage, TN in 1967 where Michael transitioned from radio DJ to his newspaper copy desk career at The Tennessean, where he worked until his retirement. Michael will be remembered fondly for his devotion to Myrna, his Catholic faith, his wonderful sense of humor (including his made-up nonsense songs and phrases), and his loyalty to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 25, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138. There will also be a visitation at 9:00 AM prior to the 10:00 AM funeral mass on Saturday, October 26 at Saint Stephen Catholic Church in Mt. Juliet, TN, where the Tate family were longtime members. A graveside service for family only will take place Saturday afternoon after the mass.
