As the time has passed there are no memories that has faded. Only a deeper miss for the Grandfather I once had. Jess is getting older now and calling his Grandpa "GRANDPA" now and it touches a nerve and brings back old memories. Jess would have loved spending time with you. All he can talk about is trucks and tractors, he would have had a BLAST with his Great Grandpa too. If only everybody had a person in there life like my Grandpa. We miss you dearly I hope you and Grannie are watching Jess from above to see what kind of little boy he is turning out to be. You would be proud.

grandpa, or as he would sign it ganpaw, what can we say.  there are no words that can replace the loss that we have had. but there are many memories that will stick with us for a life time.  but that is what makes everyone who they are, the memories that they leave behind. a man is not measured by what he can do for you while he is here, it is what he can do for you when they are gone, and man did he do alot. as my brother has already said, there is not enough book to tell all the memories we could think of. you cant put into words the impact he had on me, my brother, my cousins or the rest of the people in his life.  but in some way, if you have ever met this man, there was an impact that was made on your life.  it could be anything from actual livin life to how to get through life.  this was the best all around man that there could be.  as it has already been said, the outer shell was rough, but once you smoothed it out to get to the inside, you seen that there was no end to the deepness inside his heart.  to some it was a passion for family, always wanting to have cookouts where he would stay up allnight makin the best barbeque, and to others it was the ability to make things work.  he had more junk than any one man could ever need, but in his eyes it was treasure. it goes to show the sayin one mans junk is another mans treasure.  i have seen him takin a turd and polish it into a diamond.  it might have been somethin silly in many peoples eyes, but it was the most awesome toy his grandsons have ever played with.  i lknow he hasnt been the same person he once was in the last few years but he was still the same man that could draw your respect just by the way you knew he wanted to carry himself.  granpaw, i love you so much, and i miss you even more.  there will never be a way to replace the impact you have made on my life, but the only thing i can do is try to make the same on someone else.  i love you so much and i will see you again on the other side. so get your pole ready and get the grease hot, ill bring the spoon. i love you buddy

GrandPa.... Oh how i have missed my GRANDPA the past few years! He has not been the same but yet still with us, Those who new him new him as I did. He was one of the most adventureouse on the go person i have ever met. I can remember when i was a small kid he kept me on the road, from fishing in some unknown creek to Mr. Wards pound or with Jay Acuff, or we was at anything that had a motor on it or moved by prepulsion events! I get my love of nascar from my Grandpa i never seen him miss a race! (Richard Petty) I can remember my Nelson side the best from our trips to the country, we would go to Harrolds house then to Wilburs and god only knows where else as long as dark didnt catch us. I had some of my greatest times of my life with my Grandpa. I got a reminder of what he stood for just the other day 8/15/10 i had broke my tail bone on 8/7 and mom had a voice mail from Helen, some how she had found out i had an accident and called to check on me! It touched me because it was un expected, but its the way my Grandpa was its called FAMILY. Family is at the end of the day what my Grandpa stood for and that is a dwendeling trait in people now days, so Helen drew a tear purely beecause she called, That is my Grandpas people thats FAMILY, I just wished his Great Grandson could have had just a little bit of what his Great Grandpa had to offer! He may have had a rough coat but what was on the inside was truely to be admired. I miss and I am going to miss GRANDPA for the rest of my life. I may have babbeled through alot of this if I did I am truely sorry i just have so much to say and there not enough book to put it in. I Love You Grandpa.

I also have to tell about what Morris felt for his four grandsons.  Simply put....he loved them, totally and completely, each one of them.  They brought out a softer more gentle side of him that Dana & I never got to see because he was too busy being the Daddy of daughters.  He had infinate patience teaching them about whatever he was working on at the time,  he loved when they wanted to "help" him and he always had something that they could piddle together on.
   When Josh & Tommy started playing ball, seem like they would both have practice at the same time but different places.  Morris & Stella often times took one or the other to practice and were at every game for the next 10 years.  They loved the ball games and no matter how late the games would go in later years, they were there until the last pitch.  Later when Alex and Danny started playing ball, Mama was gone by then but Daddy went to the games and loved those too.  Whenever one of the boys made a good play or hit a home run he would be grinning from ear to ear and looking like he was going to burst with pride, you would have thought they were major league players!
   He was always so proud of all 4 of them and would brag on them to anyone who would listen.
   He had one great grandson, Jess Hunter Bradley, who was only 16 months old when Morris died, but I have no doubt he would have enjoyed watching him grow just as much as he did the other boys.

Daddy loved people and he loved to see people having a good time.  He loved family reunions, and "get together's" of any kind, wheather it was a big dinner at the Ford Plant or a 4th of July BBQ in Mt. Juliet, the more the merrier!
   When we were younger it was more the family reunion thing, decoration day, camping at Dale Hollow and invite the whole family and times like that. After they bought the land in Mt. Juliet he started having the 4th of July BBQ's.  He would work for days getting ready, then stay up all night the night before smoking the meat.  He had some of the best BBQ!  Luckily he taught a few of the rest of us and we can carry on that tradition!  There was nothing he liked better than a big bunch of people eating and talking and having a good time, unless it was a good cold beer and he liked those too!
   He was a strict father, especially with me, too strict at times, which in turn played a hand in my rebellion, but to this day I have no doubt it was fear that made him that way, and love for his girls.  I used to think my Daddy wasn't afraid of anything, but as we got older I realize that he was afraid of a lot of things, mostly things that he could not control anyway.
   His lack of a formal education caused him to feel inferior in ways, which he shouldn't have, he was one of the smartest people I know.
   Daddy has been gone a month now, and in that month my Mother in law came home from rehab with a broken hip and 3rd degree burns and my son Josh had a 4 wheeler wreck and broke his tailbone, so I have still not had time to really realize that Daddy is gone, even though the saddness is a constant. Dana is hanging on using Daddy's dogs, going to Daddy's several times a day to take care of them, that way she doesn't feel the loss as much either.
   We had BBQ the day of Daddy's funeral with all of us and Reba's family at Daddy's house.  Robbie made the BBQ and it was good.  Daddy would have loved it and it seemed fitting somehow.  That was all that Josh wanted that day and I think he had a good idea, I am just grateful that Robbie had the BBQ!
   It is a stormy afternoon and Daddy hated storms, I guess that's why he's on my mind so much today.  He had a terrible fear of storms, another thing he passed on to his daughters, thankfully we aren't as bad as he was about them.
   I have already thought a dozen times how I need to call Daddy, I need to fix a plate for Daddy, I wonder if Daddy is in bed yet??  and I know from experience that dozen times will turn into thousands of times through the years to come, I hate when that happens.
   I have no doubt that Daddy is so much better off now than the last few years, he never wanted to be the way he had gotten the last couple of years, but that doesn't make us miss him any less.

Daddy's good friend Jay Acuff went to Lake Ocochobee several times a year and he always tried to get Morris to go.  Morris and Stella finally went for a week once and had a great time!!!

   I met Morris the first time At Standing Stone on June 3, 1989.  Johnny Nelson told my dad and I about the Nelson Reunion And dad said lets go.  So we packed a few clothes and my dad, his brother Harlan Buster Savage and I left town headed for Tennessee.  The next year we went down there to visit, Serephine Nelson and we stayed a  couple of days. Then dad and I started going down every year and Seriphine took us all over your state visiting relatives and people my dad grew up with.  She took us to your mom and dads house.  Then in December 1992 my dad had a stroke and in February he came to live with me.  And your dad and mom were having a 4th of July cook out and he invited us.  He was doing pretty well then and my dad and your dad talked about being kids and their parents and had a good time.  I enjoyed it too.  And your parents were so nice.  I will always rember that.

 Growing up, Daddy was very strict with me and Jane.  We had rules and curfews and had to entertain our boy friends in the den where he or Mama could keep an eye on us.  I see kids today with no supervision or rules,and now I know why he was the way he was.  He loved us and wanted to protect us.  Now I know what "because I said so" and "because it doesn't look right" means.  I think Jane and I turned out OK.  Daddy even told me that not long ago when we were talking about how some kids are today. 
    He worked hard in the heat at the Ford Glass Plant, working a swing shift, and provided a good living for his family.  When he was home, he didn't watch much TV except for Gunsmoke, Hee Haw, or car races.  He stayed busy outside working on things.  He was always welding something or building something.  He built a 36 Ford from the ground up and I remember how embarrassed I was when he picked us up at school in it.  He built a camper out of a Lance peanut truck.  It doubled as a playhouse for Jane and I.  It was really cool.  
        In the early 70's Daddy brought home a dozen eggs from Grandpa Nelson's barn and showed me how to put a light on them and turn them every day.  Only 2 hatched, and when the eggs started rotting and bursting, and Mama got so mad.  Daddy took my eggs to the basement for a few more days "just in case any more hatched."    They didn't, and the basement smelled of rotten eggs for several weeks.
    One morning he woke me up and told me to look on my chair.  There was a pigeon he had caught at work for me!  
    He brought Jane and me a tiny chihuahua puppy one day and we named him Penny...just like the little chihuahua daddy had when he was a boy.  
    One day he brought home seven puppies that he found on the side of the road that someone had dumped in the  country.  Pepper was the only one that lived, and daddy took her with him when he drove up to work on the log house he was building for several years.  
    He bought us a Honda trail 90 "to keep our minds off boys".  It didn't work.  
   One day in 1973, he took me to a farm and told me to pick out a horse.  That was the happiest day of my life.  It was another ploy to keep my mind off boys...and it did work...for a while.  We had to go feed my horse, Ginger every day especially in the winter because we boarded her on Horris Hamblins farm here in Mount Juliet, and so we spent a lot of time together.  Daddy and I were both quiet people, but sometimes just spending time together...without talking is better than talking all the time without saying anything that really matters.
    I found a baby chick in Mr. Hamblin's barn one winter, and Daddy let me bring her home.  I had Barney for many years.  
    Daddy loved animals and he had 2 big dogs that stayed by his side the last 13 years of his life.  He would not let them out of his sight.  His last words to me were..."now hurry home before dark and feed my dogs."
    Daddy had his flaws, but I don't know anyone that doesn't.  He did the best he could and I know he loved Jane and me and his grandsons, and great grandson very much.  I think he knew we all loved him too.

First, I want you both to know how much I love you.  And I really wanted to come to Morris funeral, but some things going on in our family prevented all that.  I loved your dad,  but he was older than me and when ever we came to visit he was either working or sleeping so I didn't spend a lot of time with him.  I like the things he made like the knives with the glass handles, and the old cars he worked on, and the hand dug basement  in your house on Ironwood.  I will miss him.  But you will make it and we still have each other to love.   Looking forward to getting up to Nashville and visiting sometime soon.

I miss you Daddy.  I am just so unbelievably sad.

It's hard for me to utter the words, "Uncle Morris" without a smile coming across my lips.  He made an impression on me early on in my dating years and of course in the past 21 years of marriage to Robert.  I can just see him sitting at the table as we entered the house with a hearty, "Come in! Come in!" greeting.  A few years ago, we discovered that our next door neighbors had been friends with Uncle Morris as young adults.  It was then that the joke of making a hot dog for him if he'd stop by and see us and visit the neighbors began.  From then on, at any meal whether scrumptous Holiday meals, fun-filled cookouts or family reunions, I'd share the joke with him about giving him a hot dog to eat as if it were a gourmet treat.  
Uncle Morris influenced Robert in so many ways and was one he looked up to as he grew to appreciate fine arts such as smoking meat and blacksmithing.  Those are only two that will carry on because of Uncle Morris.  He was truly a man's man, a family man, and my gentle friend.  I will miss you Uncle Morris.  Rest easy my friend.

All family is precious, but there is something special about the ones who live close by.  I was so fortunate to grow up with my Nashville cousins, Jane and Dana, and their parents, Aunt Stella and Uncle Morris.  I remember making homemade ice cream on a hot summer evening in the 70s on the patio.  I remember the care with which their suburban Donelson garden was tended.  I remember the peppers and the little dog Penny.  I remember the home they made, and how the door was always open for family.  The true tribute to the family that Morris and Stella made is the living legacy of love evident in the family that goes on.  Thank you.  We will miss you.

I'm truly sorry to hear of Morris' death.  He was always such a kind and appreciative patient.  He really stands out in my memory.
 
I hope you are doing ok.  Hope to see you before too long.

I sure am going to miss Uncle Morris!  He was kind of the anchor at all our family gatherings-the patriarch.  I guess the first one in memory was probably my 2nd or 3rd  Christmas...and Christmas wasn't Christmas till we got to the Nelson dinner! So many of them..what a blessing in my life!  Same was true for Thanksgiving and the 4th of July!  
I will always be thankful for the kindnesses Uncle Morris showed me.  He would take time to talk to me and kid around with me when I was a girl.  He let us do fun things like riding mini bikes all over the yard and having all the neighbor kids around, plus fishing, picnics, cookouts, & reunions that will remain a part of me.  He also was so generous to me to help me with my horse, Charlie.  All through our long college years (7), he would feed and water and hay for me.  He took good care of him when I couldn't have afforded board.  I'll never forget that nor all the little things like making a huge tire swing for my kids. Plus the "big" things made a huge impression on me and others, such as, standing by Aunt Stella in her illness and doing much of the caretaking himself...Loving his kids and grandkids selflessly and sharing with people less fortunate.  I will also appreciate and remember what a friend he was to my father...all the Ford stories about them playing practical jokes and dumping water on people's heads and whatnot...always fun-loving. I'll miss him dearly .

Daddy, you would have been so proud to see all the people who showed up today for you.  You are going to be missed by so many.  Dana & I will get through this and be ok, you and Mama raised us well, but you will be missed all the rest of our lives.

I know you are up there having a grand family reunion with those that went before us, Stella, Daddy, Paul, our Grand parents.. aunts, uncles, Bob, Ford buddies, and other family and friends. Thanks for being my hero and sticking up for me against bigger and older (boy) bullies in school. And thanks for letting me fight my own battles when it was equal and fair! what a great tribute! still praying for you all!

I wanted to take the time to let you know how much I enjoyed working with your Dad, I just wish I had started sooner.  He was always kind & nice to me.  Read his obit and cried as it just doesn't seem real!  I love all of your family very much, they just seem like part of mine.  I always looked forward to going and seeing him and his dogs.  I am just glad that I stayed a little later last Tuesday and talked with him.  You are in my prayers and if you need me feel free to call.
