Ruby Estar Martin Kitchen, age 83 of Mt. Juliet ceased to live in this world Sunday, February 1, 2015, but Heaven gained an Angel. The reality is that she had always been an Angel; she dedicated her life to enriching the lives of others, especially the lives of children who had been orphaned. This was her passion as she traveled thousands of miles raising money for the Hope Hill Children's Home, an institution of hope founded by her and her husband. Hope Hill began as a beautiful campus where children could find love, acceptance, family, and Christ. It continues to serve youth today, a living memorial to the God-given vision of a woman who dared to hope! She was an author, song writer, recording artist, beloved wife for 60 years of Robert J. Kitchen, Sr.; loving mother to 3 boys, Bobby J. Jr., Paul, and David who adored her and a precious daughter "Sissy", Barbara Breeden Perry. Ruby was one of nine children and is survived by her sister, Naomi Martin Gilbertson and baby brother, Paul Martin, Sr. She was the daughter of the late James Howard and Mirtie Amanda Pack Martin. She was a joy to her many brothers and sisters. She was a beloved "mamaw" to her grandchildren, “Aunt Ruby” to scores of nieces and nephews, "Mrs. Ruby" to many, "Sister Ruby" to most, but a blessing to all! Her song, "Broken Pieces" touched more lives than we can ever know. But the life she lived on this earth touched every life she encountered! A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Hermitage Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Kitchen officiating. Interment will follow in Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Robert “Bo” Kitchen, III, David Kitchen, Jr., Ricky Sharp, Carl Perry, Drew Young, Jerry Amburgey and Julian Thomas Kitchen will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation with the family 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hill Children’s Home, 700 Hope Means Road, Hope, KY 40334. Visit the online obituary: www.hermitagefh.com.
