MITCHELL, Ruth Hunter Byrd- Age 88 of Hermitage, TN passed away December 5, 2010. Ruth was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was a member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her brother, James Byrd and sister, Jewell Wray. Ruth is survived by her husband of 71 years, J.T. Mitchell; son, Captain Michael Mitchell (Peggy) retired from the Nashville Metro Police Department; daughter, Libby Palmer (Brian); granddaughter, Beth Gellert (Josh); grandson, Adam Palmer (Fran); great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Noah, Aaron Gellert and Alexandra, Kate, John Palmer; half sister and half brother, Vivian and Riley Byrd. A Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Hermitage Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends during the 2 hours prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Hermitage Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hermitage Hills Baptist Church or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
