Sue grew up in Nashville and attended Howard High School. She was a School Crossing Guard for years before she became a School Bus Driver for Nashville Metro Public Schools. Sue was a driver for more than 30 years and drove for most of the schools in Davidson County. Still to this day people remember her and appreciate the work and care she provided for the students. Sue had a winning personality and loved working with kids and helping others. Sue and Sharon Lavender have been partners for forty-seven years and legally married for ten years. Together, they loved visiting the Smokey Mountains and visiting family and friends. They especially loved the “Pot Luck” and “Harem” group of friends that have been in our families lives for many years. Sue was a force to be reckoned with and the life of a party. She loved her family with every fiber of her being and whether she was called Mama, Sue Bella, Nanny, or Great Nanny she answered to them all and was our EVERYTHING! She was the rock of stability for our family.
Sue is preceded in death by her loving spouse and dedicated care giver, Sharon Lorraine (Miller) Lavender, father Virgil Smith and mother, Sallie Hobbs and sister Jean Walker. She is survived but her loving children, son Charles Robert Lavender (Doris Ann); daughter, Shelby Darlene Lavender Richardson (Bill); Julie Gail Lavender McCalla (Scott); son, Walter Thomas Lavender (Tammie); grandchildren Sandra, Stephanie, Michael, David, Bryan, Kyle, Tommy, Zachary, Greg; great grandchildren Caroline, Alexxis, Landon, Zoe, Tatyana, Connor, Marina, Ethan; great great grandchild Noah, and sister Peggy.
There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Friday, August 30, from 9am - 11am in the Tulip Grove Room at Hermitage Funeral Home. A Celebration of Sue’s Life will begin at 11am with Dr Jud Hays Officiating. Please join us in celebrating the life of this amazing and wonderful woman.
