

REV. SUMMERS, William C., Jr., was born to eternal life of January 26, 2013. He spent 91 years on this earth and was loved by many whose lives he blessed. Rev. Summers was born December 31, 1921 in Charleston W. VA to William and Latitia Summers who preceded him in death. Also preceding him were his first wife, Eava Elizabeth Carrico and his daughter, Letitia Ru Peace and 6 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn R. Good Summers of Old Hickory, TN; son, William and his wife Patricia, Old Hickory, TN; son-in-law, Gregory Peace, Reynoldsville, PA; four grandchildren, Michael and his wife Ester of the Netherlands, Mark and Barbara of MA, Jaime and her husband, Dan of SC and Letitia and her husband Aric of TN; five great grandchildren, Crystal, Matthew, Christina and Kevin Summers and Robert Peace. God also blessed him in his later years with 5 step-children, 8 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 brothers and 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews who surrounded and showered him with love. Rev. Summers grew up on a farm in Derricks Creek, W. VA and later wrote a book about it. He was a prolific published author. He wrote sermon outlines, short stories, poems and songs. He joined the Navy during WWII and was transferred to the Army where he guarded prisoners of war in Georgia and trained messenger dogs on Cat Island, Mississippi. He was a skilled contractor/builder following the war. He attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, OH and graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in Boston, MA in 1954. He pastored in Union City, PA and was ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene in 1956. In addition, he pastored churches in Washington, D.C., Rochester, N.Y. and Alexandria, VA. He also taught school in VA and N.Y. Rev. Summers was a self-taught musician, playing the banjo, violin, guitar, mandolin and piano. He was a basket weaver and caner. He was a hunter. He loved working in his flower beds and his garden and enjoyed sharing their bounty. He was an avid reader and was always anxious to share new insights from contemporary Christian literature. He and Ms. Kathryn loved to travel and were not reticent about taking a 2,000 mile road trip to attend family reunions and visit friends and family along the way. Rev. Summers spoke of Heaven so vividly during his last weeks here on earth that no-one could doubt where he was going. We will miss him, but will cherish the memories of our times together. Memorial services will be held at the Covenant Fellowship Church of The Nazarene at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2nd with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
