Halina S. Kaczor

After harrowing war years during WWII in occupied Warsaw, Poland as a teenager and early years of suppression under Communism as a young adult, Halina immigrated to the United States in 1964. She settled in New York where she became a US Citizen in 1970 and has lived in Chester, CT since 2008.

With limited knowledge of English, she became an engineering aide for a New York City consulting company and rose to the position of electrical designer, laying out electrical distribution networks for some of New York’s tallest skyscrapers, including the old World Trade Center Towers.

A woman of varied talents and interests, her hobbies included completing Polish crossword puzzles, watching tennis and playing contract bridge. However, her true passion was her large family. She doted on three generations of descendants, particularly enjoying passing on Polish holiday celebration traditions and cuisine.

Along with her parents, Halina now joins her husband John, sister Kazia, brother Janusz, and daughter-in-law Frances in Eternal Rest. She is survived by a sister, Wanda, of Poznan, Poland; a son, Walt Sadowski of Old Lyme, CT ; a daughter, Anna Sadowska and her husband, Don Lewand, of Colonia, NJ; 4 grandchildren: Stergios Papadakis and his wife, Alison, of Ellicott City, MD; Aimee Menapace and her husband, Michael, of North Granby, CT ; Paul Papadakis and his wife, Denise, of Long Island City, NY; and Adam Sadowski and his wife, Shannon, of Southington, CT; and 6 great-grandchildren: Marybeth and Isabella Menapace, Sophia and John Papadakis, and Brendan and Kathleen Sadowski.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015, 10:30am at Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Road, Old Lyme, CT 06371. The family will receive visitors at 9:30am in the church and the private internment immediately will follow the Mass at the family gravesite in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme.
