Hazel Rosalind Bryan Tracy died at home peacefully on November 11, 2021, after a long illness. She was born at home in Mill Neck, NY on April 30, 1935, daughter of James Taylor and Hazel Rosalind Lafrentz Bryan.
Hazel is survived by Ernest B. Tracy, Jr, her beloved husband of 62 years. She is also survived by their children: Ernest, Alison Nalle, Nina Jaeger, Virginia, and Scott; and 13 wonderful grandchildren. She also
leaves 28 devoted nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings: James, William, Robert, Hope Oelsner, Ruth Colgrove, and Joy Bacon.
Hazel attended The Green Vale School and was graduated from Miss Hall’s School, Bradford College and Columbia University School of General Studies. She also spent a formative year studying French and art history at Reid Hall in Paris. In addition to raising five children in New York City, Hazel loved teaching music and visual art at The Diller-Quaile School of Music. She also was a longtime docent and
tour guide at the Museum of Natural History.
After retiring with Ernest to Londonderry, VT in 1989, Hazel devoted her energy to the Friends of the West River Trail as a volunteer and board member. Always prioritizing young people, she also
volunteered with the Vermont Institute of Natural Science’s conservation education program.
An avid outdoor enthusiast and accomplished athlete, Hazel loved swimming, cross-country and downhill
skiing, canoeing, hiking and biking. In tennis she consistently proved that she had the heart and skills of a champion.
