Dr. Henry Brown of Old Saybrook, and formerly of New London, died suddenly at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital on January 28, 2011, with his wife of forty-five years, Karen C. Brown, by his side. He is survived by his son, David I. Brown, his daughter, Kimberly Brown Eve, and their spouses, Meghan E. Brown and Tegan M. Eve, who will all miss him for the rest of their lives. He is also survived by two grandsons, Owen and Griffin Brown, who both amazed him.
He was born in 1932 in Syracuse, New York, the son of Isadore and Ethel Brown. He is predeceased by his brother, Myron “Buddy” Brown.
Henry served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and as Chief of Neurosurgery at the 24th Evacuation Hospital in Vietnam, from 1968 to 1969. Before leaving for Vietnam, and upon his return, Henry worked, until 1998, as a neurosurgeon at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, where he was adored and admired by co-workers and patients alike.
He had an incredible sense of humor and was an avid adventurer. His family and friends all know the world is better for him having been in it.
A memorial service is being planned.
